Taylor swift concert worries

So my 12yr old was due to go to one of the concerts at Wembley next week with my 30 year old step daughter. I’d really rather they didnt didn’t go due to all the unrest in the uk and the recent Austria events. I’ve tried to explain this to her and she is now very upset and still g I am running her life. Such a difficult situation as a mum. And advice would be helpful.

Let her go - this tour is going to be a once in a lifetime event for her and so special.

Sympathise with your worries but you can't live in fear and there will be tonnes of security around everything from a terror perspective.

From a riots perspective - there has been very little activity in London and the atmosphere here is very chilled.

We have tickets and I am anxious about it (especially as also taking a child that's not mine) although there's no question of us not going. A part of me almost hopes they'll be cancelled to reduce my anxiety levels Blush but I'm sure security will be tighter than ever and all will be well. I think you'd have a hard time appeasing your DD the day after the concert when she sees that everything was fine and she missed out.

ParisinFrance · 11/08/2024 16:58

I do understand your fears but I would let them go and not say anything. I have taken my daughter to a few big concerts this year and safety is at the back of your mind especially in such huge crowds but I would expect security to be extra tight.

FoxRedPuppy · 11/08/2024 17:02

I grew up with a father in the forces and the constant threat of the IRA. Locally there were bomb threats and some people were shot near our local garage. My bus to school was checked for bombs every day.

We never let it stop us doing anything, my dad used to say that is how they win.

Sarah2891 · 11/08/2024 17:04

I'd definitely still go. You can't let fear win.

@Upupandaway10

which bit of my reply could you not understand ?
2 clear sentences to deal with 2 different potential situations.

Blueblell · 11/08/2024 17:18

My 17 year old dd also has tickets and I am also concerned but part of me is wondering if there will be copy cats and cancellations. They only really need someone to say there is a plan for it to cause a problem.

OP your dd is 12 and has plenty of time for concerts when she is an older teen. I don’t mean that to sound like she shouldn’t go - she should absolutely be able to go and enjoy herself. But I would also not feel guilty if your gut reaction is stop her on this occasion. Go with your gut!

Mama1980 · 11/08/2024 17:24

I'd go absolutely. Fear doesn't get to win. I grew up in London with the IRA so bomb scares and searches - we just got on with it.

HungryWombat · 11/08/2024 17:44

Gosh suprirwsd at the replies. Mayve some of you go to concerts regularly but to my 12 year old this is the most exciting thing in her life so far (currently trying on her outfit for this weekend!)

Its not like cancelling a trip to the park...

HungryWombat · 11/08/2024 17:45

I don't think anyone with tickets would be glibly saying "my kid wouldn't go".

DancelikeFredAstaire · 11/08/2024 17:51

I'd go. There has been terrorist incidents on buses, trains, planes, shopping malls, schools, markets, busy roads etc all over the world, yet people still use/go to them here. If you're going to curb activities because something happened or was threatened overseas you'd never go/do anything outside your own home.

wonderstuff · 11/08/2024 17:52

Haven’t read the whole thread, but I went to the TS gig at Wembley last month and it was just lovely, it was me, dd16 and a couple of her friends, we all felt very safe, it was a lovely atmosphere, not just in the stadium but also in the area, we went for dinner before the show and the vibe was lovely.

Around the stadium all the roads are closed, security is tight. Wembley are very good at running these large events. I would let them go. I’d say the chances of anything happening are smaller than they were before the Vienna plan was uncovered, London has a long history of being targeted and as a result security very tight and considered. Nothing is without risk, but I think the risks here are very small.

nicknamehelp · 11/08/2024 17:53

There is a risk every time you leave your house got to live life and not be controlled by fear.
These events are rare hence they make the news.

PoopedAndScooped · 11/08/2024 17:54

I personally would let her go

You cant wrap them in cotton wool and sadly, anything could happen at any time

Iamthemoom · 11/08/2024 20:22

We went first night in London and security was thorough. I imagine the August dates will be even more so. But you have to do what feels right for you. But I don't think there's any substitute that will appease a true Swiftie. It's a once in a life time experience. I do think if there's any real threat TS will cancel herself.

Bathh82 · 13/08/2024 18:20

Let her enjoy the build up and try not to 0ut your fear into her. Like someone said on the thread, look what happened at that dance class. Things happen shopping, at school, loads of places but you can't live in fear.
We went in June and it was AMAZING!!

Bathh82 · 16/08/2024 07:31

Did you dd go yest OP?

This.

We had traveled to Vienna for the concert. Once we'd recovered from the shock and disappointment of it being cancelled we bought tix for last night in London. Security was tight, and the vibe was incredible. (And bonus Sheeran). I had no concerns about safety whatsoever.

For the pp who wanted a ticket - they have loads for resale on the two reputable sites. Inflated prices obviously...

Rocknrollstar · 16/08/2024 08:48

DiL and DD took my gran daughters aged 19 and 12 last night. There was a lot of security, they felt safe and had a good time. Let your daughter go and build memories. I’m a firm believer in ‘if it’s your time it will happen wherever you are’. DM used to worry about me travelling and I always said I could stay at home and get run over a bus.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 16/08/2024 09:04

I’m going to be very tongue in cheek here but if I had the choice between the small risk of terrorists and the high risk of the wrath of my teenage daughter, I’d go with the terrorists!

We went first night Wembley, it was seamless and security was good, we couldn’t even get close to the stadium without showing our tickets!

HungryWombat · 16/08/2024 12:27

We went last night. Tons of security but nothing that got in your way or made you feel Intimidated. I was amazed at the coordination of it all.
