Taylor swift concert worries

So my 12yr old was due to go to one of the concerts at Wembley next week with my 30 year old step daughter. I’d really rather they didnt didn’t go due to all the unrest in the uk and the recent Austria events. I’ve tried to explain this to her and she is now very upset and still g I am running her life. Such a difficult situation as a mum. And advice would be helpful.

It will be fine. And you absolutely can't teach young people that they should be living their lives in fear - they need to get out there and experience as much as they can.

And this is just how terrorists win. Life has to go on.

Nailed it.

TemuRoyal · 11/08/2024 10:02

Security will be mega high. It’s probably the safest time to go TBH.

BlackBean2023 · 11/08/2024 10:05

We are going - the threat has always been there, just people become more aware of the threats when there is media attention.

London hasn't seen the same level of facist disruption as some of the northern cities - it doesn't feel any different to 'normal'

pinkhousesarebest · 11/08/2024 10:11

I grew up in NI at its worst. No matter what happened, we still went out and had the time of our lives. London will be the safest place on the planet for these concerts. Let her go - she’ll have a wonderful time and I guarantee that once inside the stadium, no-one will give a thought to the terrorist threat.
I am so envious. It’s a night unlike any other and I would be there in a heartbeat.

MouseofCommons · 11/08/2024 10:16

We went in June. Bag checks were random (I got a full bottle of water in). But they were spot checking tickets for anyone trying to walk through the front of Wembley / Olympic way. Never seen that before.
If you can get a small clear bag before your gig it will make security's job easier.

Klippityklopp · 11/08/2024 10:51

I'd imagine the security is going to be stepped up op but I get your fears.
We had a concert a few months after the Ariana Grande concert, my DD was on edge the whole concert if I'm being honest, she would have been 10 at the time but I'm so glad we went, she is now 17 and loves concerts.
@Bearpawk if you don't think the op should be concerned about a Taylor swift concert I'm guessing you haven't seen the news of her Vienna concerts this week

Disturbia81 · 11/08/2024 13:00

Security will be higher than ever after a threat, you could argue it is the safest time to go. But I'm never impressed with the bag checks.. only a couple do the scan thing, the rest are just a cursory look in my bag. I could have allsorts hiding at the bottom. I guess a lot of their checks are dependent on person, they don't see a white woman in her 40s as a risk
I wouldn't stop living my life due to this though.

itsgettingweird · 11/08/2024 13:08

It's such a tough one.

The realistic/ sensible (can't think of the right words!) me thinks security will be stepped up and intelligence will be on top form.

But if I was actually going I'd feel the same way as you regardless of that.

peebles32 · 11/08/2024 14:51

I would still let her go and I say that as having a relative on my-ex husbands side killed in the Manchester bombing.
Security will be super tight and I feel that it lets them win!

I would let my 12 year old go but I think I would want to go with her myself.

I had tickets for Vienna and my daughter is still gutted. Would love tickets for London but they're still extortionate for crap seats. I'm already at least £1000 out of pocket for the Vienna trip so can't be paying £700 😭.

With everything in Vienna these will probably be the safest concerts in terms of security as everyone will be on high alert.

Thelondonone · 11/08/2024 15:28

I’m going with my daughter, it has made me think but going to school is dangerous, as is going to your local park.

loropianalover · 11/08/2024 15:33

Mojinka · 10/08/2024 23:21

I wouldn't send her either op.. Can she be "bribed" something else she wanted arranged for that evening? Taylor Swift party at home?

your suggestion is a punishment not a bribe 🤣

I understand your worries OP but I’d let her go.

summershere99 · 11/08/2024 15:39

I am taking DD10 next week. I am a bit worried, yes, but security in the run up and during the event will be even tighter than before. TS has had numerous concerts go ahead without any incident and if they do think there is a credible threat they will cancel them. I think you have to weigh it up against how your DD might feel if she doesn’t go and everything is fine… it might be a hard one for her to forgive.

DangerDangerHighMoisture · 11/08/2024 15:46

I'm definitely going with tween DDs. I will be more alert than I normally would and will allow extra time for security etc, but I'm not depriving them of the experience out of anxiety. I trust that after Vienna the security services will be all over it and police presence high. If they deem it okay to go ahead I have to trust that.

To be fair though OP, I'm not sure how I'd feel if it wasn't me or DH taking them. Not that I'd be able to protect them any better than anyone else necessarily, I just think it would increase my anxiety about it for sure.

Bearpawk · 10/08/2024 23:30

I don't think the national front are going to be at a Taylor swift concert, the price of those bloody tickets
I'd let her go and have a fab time

I don't think she meant the national front

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 11/08/2024 00:12

Security for and at the concert will be excellent..
Riots in Wembley - I think the racist thugs will be outnumbered !!!

As other posters have said -

Are you for real?? It was a Islamist plot to blow up the stadium. A stadium full of little girls and women. www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c1k37dm9e0eo

@Janie54

She should go, OP - I can understand your hesitation, but there is no reason to think that she would be at risk in any way.

As someone else has said, the London concerts would be cancelled by Taylor Swift's team following advice, if there were real reasons for concern.

For what it's worth, there is going to be a high level of policing all over London on the nights of the concerts, the Met, City Police and BTP.

Mammyloveswine · 11/08/2024 16:12

It'll be so safe now after the Austria plot and all the riots!

I'd let her go!

Maddy70 · 11/08/2024 16:13

💯 my child would be going
