Living at Barking Riverside?

Hi I’ve heard Barking is a rough area (especially near the station). Is it worth buying at Barking Riverside or it’s rough?

7 years ago when the barking riverside flats were being built, we went to view the marketing suites with a plan to buy off-plan. The people that worked in the marketing suites THEMSELVES advised against it and told us the area was awful and would take decades to become nice.
