Please Help Me Decide If I Should Buy a House around Wood Street Walthamstow

The hubby and I have had our offer accepted for a place around Wood Street Walthamstaw. We were happy at first, but are having doubts after reading some headlines about the area. If you have lived there, I'd be grateful to know about the following:

  • is it a safe area? Do you feel safe there?
  • How is it for raising children? How are the schools?
  • Is there enough to do around the area on a lazy day?
  • Is it likely that the Patchworks development on the former Marlowe Road Estate will be completed?
  • Community is very important to us. Is it easy to meet people and make friends?

Desperate for any feedback or input. Thanks a lot.

For reasons I don't fully understand, this type of question rarely gets a helpful response. I asked about Blackheath a little while ago, as I'm moving there soon, and received only one (unpleasant and sarcastic) answer. But than MN is a very odd place....

Re Wood Street, my daughter has lived in Walthamstow for about fifteen years. At first it was inadvisable to go out after dark - now, everyone wants to live there! Wood Street has a nice local community feel to it, with a good doctors' surgery and some useful shops, and is near enough to central Walthamstow (with its better transport links and wider range of shops) that most people could walk between the two.

My daughter (and son-in-law) could now move to live anywhere in London, but won't even think of going elsewhere.
