London

Cosy central-ish spots for solo diners

I’m doing a solo London trip just after Christmas, staying in Kings Cross. I’d really love to find a cosy corner in a not too busy pub or restaurant, for an early dinner and a couple of glasses of something. Budget is flexible but not infinite.

Either in the Kings Cross area or easily tube-able, ideally.

I wondered about the Library at the Standard, but can’t find a menu online. I’m also looking at St Pancras hotel.

Booking Hall bar at St Pancras
Norfolk Arms (about 5-10 mins walk from Kings Cross)

Thanks for these. The Norfolk Arms looks good. The Nest looks cute too.

The Port House on the Strand, super cosy

Thank you. That looks nice, too.

I haven't been for a while but the booking office at the st Pancras grand used to be lovely. There are a couple of nice restaurants in Pancras square - not a cosy pub but Kimchee is a fab little Korean restaurant there.

Duke of Cambridge organic pub in angel has amazing food and is friendly and relaxed. A real treat!

Daisies12 · 26/11/2023 21:57

It’s not particularly fancy but I usually go to the Cork & Bottle, it’s a basement wine bar in Leicester Square with amazing cheeses! Or Arcade food hall and sit at the bar.

Clos Maggiore! 100%.

If you fancy a cheeseboard, wander down to La Fromagerie on Lambs Conduit St. Sit at the bar. Drink wine. Eat cheese. Heaven.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/11/2023 06:41

Ooh - La Fromagerie is one of the places I’ve been looking at! These are brilliant. Thanks, everyone.

I went to Spagnoletti in Kings X on Saturday and it was wonderful. Cosy and would 100% feel comfortable there on my own. The food was amazing.

The original Noble Rot on Lambs Conduit Street would be my top pick. Great wine by the glass and good food.

I really want to go to Noble Rot, but as a fussy vegetarian I think I’d struggle with the menu.

Will check out all of these properly tonight.

Thanks again!

Thanks again for all of these. I’ve looked at all the menus and am now a bit spoilt for choice.

Spagnoletti could be a serious contender, as it’s really close to where I’m staying.

Another hopeful bump for this. I'd settled on The Norfolk Arms, but it's closed. :(

La Fromagerie is closed too. :(
