Help! Looking to book our first family west end show, which would be better for DS 12 & DS 7 do you think? Have ruled out Harry Potter as being too long!

Another vote here for lion king especially now Matilda is on Disney +.

Lion king is AMAZING- can be a bit more expensive but they won’t forget it

Oth Fabulous

Going against the grain here, I would say Matilda

Lion King.
Was totally underwhelmed by Matilda don't know if was due to the hype and the fact it had come out on film before we saw it.
Depending on their taste, we really liked The Play that went Wrong ( dds 10 and 8 and dnephew 14) and a lot cheaper too. And was also very impressed with Frozen but probably not one for boys.

Matilda is by far my preference. Lion King was fine to me, but honestly didn’t add much to the movie (which I’m pretty neutral on anyway). Matilda was different and unexpected and funny. I loved it. But then I saw it long before the movie adaptation of the musics came out.

Matilda I found confusing and was bored very quickly, there was no interaction to the audience... Lion king was amazing from the costumes down to the interaction with the audience, it felt like I was part of it. Lion king is more expensive though but we'll worth it especially if you have boys

I went to see lion King about 15 years ago in London. Was fabulous. Can't wait to take the kids.

dullandgrey · 10/08/2023 19:01

Lion king definitely

The Lion King is on in Birmingham atm if that makes a difference? Haven't seen Matilda, but my dc loved the Lion King earlier this week 😁

Pashazade · 10/08/2023 19:04

Matilda, I enjoyed Lion King but I'm not fussed about seeing it again, Matilda I've seen twice on stage. It's really well staged and interesting, the Lion King is just a rehash of the film and doesn't always hit the mark, although costuming is good, Timon and Pumba left me cold.

Yesabsolutely · 10/08/2023 19:05

The Lion King!

NewNovember · 10/08/2023 19:06

Matilda, hated lion king felt like a show for pre schoolers.

Really? Which theater you went to see the lion king?

That seems a daft comment I sincerely doubt many preschoolers are going to watch it.

Probably don't want OP to see The lion king because it was genuinely amazing, you know how some people are don't like to share the enjoyment with other's 🤣(joking).

Matilda was awesome.
Saw it a few years Roth DC 10 and 7.

I've heard Radio 4 theatre critic big wig describe it as the best stage production ever made (or something along those lines).

It is much better than the film, even the new film version of the musical.

StampOnTheGround · 10/08/2023 19:19

I've loved both at the theatre - would also second someone else who said Frozen, it was fantastic!

AllotmentTime · 10/08/2023 19:24

I was unimpressed by Matilda tbh. It was generally all well done, but lacked wow factor for me.

Jellycat43 · 10/08/2023 19:28

We've just been to see Mrs Doubtfire - Great for all the family!
