Hanging around in Kingston upon Thames

Hi
DDs are going to a gig later in the year at Prizym, Kingston Upon Thames.

We don't live in London so will be driving home afterwards.

Can you suggest anywhere suitable for me to hang about on my own for a couple of hours whilst they are in there?

Any pubs near the venue that would be ok on my own?

Thanks.

There’s a pub immediately next to Pryzm called Cornerstone and a Wetherspoons directly opposite. Both conveniently located for Pryzm. Or Whelans opposite the station. If you have time to wander up to the riverside for a bite to eat (Bills is by the bridge and the start of a parade of eateries) or the Rotunda is just next door to Pryzm with a few restaurants if you don’t want to venture far or if the gig is an early one, the Bentalls centre or one of the department stores may still be open for a browse.

I haven’t been to any of those pubs recently on my own, but I’d have no hesitation in doing so to kill some time in Kingston.

The pubs near Pryzm aren't the nicest if you are on your own - Cornerstones tends to have sports on or there is Wetherspoons. If I were you I'd go down to the river for a bite to eat, there are loads of nice restaurants there and the river is lovely. Cote, Browns, the Bishop has just been refurbished and does really good food now. And just to big up Banquet Records for their fantastic shows at Pryzm! Who are they seeing?

Monty27 · 15/04/2023 01:35

Yes it'd be ok hanging out there I reckon. If it's daytime the chazzas are excellent 🙂

Branchingout2000 · 15/04/2023 09:51

Thanks for the info - I'll have a look at them all online.

They're seeing Boygenius I think 🤷‍♀️😂.

@Branchingout2000 my 15 yo DD is one of the lucky few as well! Luckily we only live 30 minutes drive away so she will jump on a bus there and I will collect her.

She is going solo. She saw Gracie Abrams there as well a month so ago - again solo. She got chatting to lots of people in the queue.

After Gracie Abrams she got an email with the offer of a free signed poster and also she could buy a souvenir ticket. So keep an eye on your emails!

Cinema next door if the film fits the gig time.

rowantree1997 · 24/08/2023 12:33

@christmastreefarm
Can you give me any advice about pick up please?
Do you just drive past and they climb in or is there somewhere that is better to meet them?
Thanks (I've had a namechange since my original post!).
Got a 2 hour drive home afterwards so would like a quick exit 😩

If the weather’s decent, the walk along the river towards Surbiton is nice with pubs/cafes en route and lots of people about or you could take a boat trip to Hampton Court and back in a couple of hours.

@rowantree1997

I hate the kingston one way system so I usually get the bus so maybe not the best. I usually park in bentalls but I have a feeling that shuts at 11 so I'm a bit wary as I don't think the late show finishes until nearly then. There is a bus station next door where in theory you could pull over if no buses at the stops but not sure if there are cameras. There is also a teeny outside carpark not far from it but cannot remember name. I cannot easily think of any places you can stop.

rowantree1997 · 24/08/2023 13:04

Ok thanks

shibhon · 24/08/2023 13:04

I'd say avoid the pubs beside Pryzm. They're rough IMO. Make your way to the riverside. Lots of eateries and pubs. Walk through the historic market place on the way there. Kingston shopping area and market place is mostly pedestrianised so you can potter about very easily.

Re parking, if it's daytime there is John Lewis carpark in centre, or Bentall car park. If evening Canbury Parking (open air) is about 5 minutes walk away. https://en.parkopedia.co.uk/parking/carpark/canbury_place/kt2/london/?arriving=202308241330&leaving=202308241530

Hi. There is a small lay by on Clarence street in front of Cotswold Outdoor. I have picked up Dc here when they have been to Pryzm. Just beware if stopping in the Bus Stop opposite Pryzm as a friend was photographed doing this by police lurking opposite to catch people out and sent a ticket in the post….

Randomnamehere · 24/08/2023 13:42

There's a really lovely little family-run Italian restaurant round there, Terra Mia on London road, about 10 mins walk from Pryzm. I used to go there a lot so I thought I'd recommend it!

Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky · 24/08/2023 20:43

@rowantree1997 - are they at the early or late show? My DD is just waiting to go into the late one.

The late one -I think stage time is 9 30 (hopefully)

FrenchandSaunders · 24/08/2023 20:48

If you like Indian food there’s a place called Monty’s very near Prizm (opposite in fife road).

Lovely food, I spent a couple of hours in there on my own one evening when DD had something going on locally.

Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky · 24/08/2023 21:03

@rowantree1997 I think the nightclub starts at 11 so don't think they can let it slip too much.

My DD saw them Sunday at Gunnersbury park so is is second show in a few days. I had to go to that as she's under 16 and give I know no songs it wasn't bad!

rowantree1997 · 25/08/2023 08:37

@Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky thanks for the car park info - I picked them up from there (with lots of other parents by the look of it!).
Got home 1 30 😩

I picked up there too. I need to remember that one for future as it was much better spot. Yes I saw lots of other people looking as if they were picking up.

Hope your dd enjoyed it and it was worth the 2 hour drive. Mine was exhausted. She left home at 8am for gcse results and never made it home before the concert.

Really? I think they've been going 25 years so that must have been a while ago! Unless they changed names.
