Harry Potter Studio Tour

Hi,

I'm taking my DC to the Harry Potter Studio Tour in August. We're going to stay 4 nights and I'm also hoping to take them to Legoland for the day and have a day in Central London also.

We'll be flying in and out of Heathrow and will be using trains and cabs whilst we are there.

Can anyone recommend a good hotel to stay in that would be handy for railway links for the above places please?

Thank you.

What are you expecting from the hotel? Would you be happy with a standard premier in or do you want something fancier?

PurpleWalls · 28/03/2023 11:38

A premier inn would be fine, it’s the location that’s the important thing really.

Thank you.

I'd stay in a hotel near a station on the Elizabeth line. Maybe Langley? Or slough (but it's not very nice). Then you can get that into London and to and from the airport and get cabs to and from HP and Legoland.

PurpleWalls · 28/03/2023 11:55

That’s a good idea, thank you. I’ll look into that.

It will be quite a challenge to do HP tour, Legoland and central London. They are all quite far apart. I can't think where you could stay that would work

Maybe Clapham Junction? You can get the overground to Watford Junction for HP (then the shuttle bus), and out to Windsor on for Legoland (also a shuttle bus), and a short hop into Waterloo for central London.
There are two near-ish Premier Inns - Wandsworth or Clapham. You’d easily be able to hop on a bus from Clapham Junction to them.

stripymum · 30/03/2023 23:33

I'd suggest Paddington. There is a premier inn there.

You can get Heathrow Express to there.

Easy tube ride to Waterloo to get train to Windsor for Legoland.

Easy into central London on Bakerloo line.

Take circle line to Euston Square to get train to a Watford from Euston. There is a shuttle to bus to Harry Potter tour from Watford.

BTW Harry Potter studio tour is not in London it is in Watford, Hertfordshire.

Quickest way to Watford Junction station is via EUSTON can be as quick as 22 mins

The Watford station on Metropolitan Line underground system is quite a walk away from Watford Junction station - look on Google Street view

The shuttle bus goes to and from Watford junction station to the studio tour

If you haven't got your Harry Potter tickets yet, go for as early in the day as you can do that you can spend as long as you would like at the tour rather than rush around

FYI There is also a Watford town in Northamptonshire so make sure you get the Hertfordshire one

brassbells · 31/03/2023 00:30

The overground system up to Watford junction even from Euston is much slower as it stops at so many stations it could even be nearly 45 mins - 1 hour from Euston

That's why I suggested somewhere on the Elizabeth line. It's cheaper than central London and Legoland to HP World is about 30 mins in a cab round the M25

SkaterBrained · 31/03/2023 08:22

We stayed at the Best Western at Swiss Cottage, which was on the train line to HP world (bus at end) right side of the city for Lego land and could easily get into the city centre. It was also calm and walking distance to Hampstead Heath, which was nice mixed into the manic overcrowded days.

Davros · 31/03/2023 08:59

Clymeme you're right, I was thinking that those might not be very London experience locations but it's good advice. The suggestion of Swiss Cottage is good, easy to get into the centre or go to Camden market, Kings Cross etc

brassbells · 31/03/2023 09:18

Please do not go to Watford station on the Metropolitan Line as it will not have the shuttle bus there to take you to HARRY POTTER STUDIO TOUR

You need the WATFORD JUNCTION STATION for the shuttle bus

This is on the EUSTON TRAIN LINE not on the Metropolitan Tube line

Also, if you want to get a taxi around M25 to the HP tour it is locally referred to as a car park due to traffic jams so please allow lots of extra time for your journey

PurpleWalls · 31/03/2023 10:44

Thanks everyone, this is all really helpful.

Please note that SWISS COTTAGE tube station is on Jubilee tube line so that is easy to change on to the METROPOLITAN tube line but as I have said that is the wrong Watford station

MrsSkylerWhite · 31/03/2023 10:58

Premier Inn in Watford is great. Newish, clean and lovely, child friendly staff. A lot of their clients are there for HP so they’re really geared up for it. Run drawing competitions for kids, etc.

SkaterBrained · 31/03/2023 14:59

Sorry, from the Swiss Cottage hotel you are only 5minutes walk from the south Hampstead overground station - which goes to Watford junction. I should have specified that rather than make people think you'd need to go to the actual Swiss Cottage underground stop.

brassbells · 01/04/2023 10:36

Ok thank you for explaining about swiss cottage not being tube stop etc
