Leaving London for a less crazy life

Just that really. We have a three bed flat in a block of three. The property is a beautiful old Victorian building but a money pit. It’s at the stage where we all need to put some money into it (quite a lot) to give it the tlc it needs. However...we have just been offered a sizeable sum of money by developers who can fit 9 flats on this land. Everyone is interested though everyone has their own ideas about how much they think they should get from the sale. So there’s a bit of negotiation going on. But it’s got us thinking. We’ve been in London 18 years. We have a 10 year old and 12 year old who are in good schools. But we need a change - before life and work at this crazy level kills us. My husband is an architect for a big firm. He’s had enough after 13 years but it’s a bit of a golden handcuffs place - the pay and benefits are great and unmatched by other companies. He could move for less money but that wouldn’t equal less hours. I think ultimately he’d like to set up something by himself - not necessarily big and not with the same stress. Until then however he thinks he should just grind through given looming recession etc. But we would still need to move if the developer thing goes through and would ideally like to be somewhere that feels like a different life but with the possibility of getting to London in less than an hour if needs be. Sevenoaks and Tunbridge Wells appeal. Any thoughts? Also how difficult would it be to get our kids into schools given they’d be in year admissions?
