How do I get replacement glasses without prescription?

So..... I've broken (beyond repair violent meltdown with SEND DC) my only pair of glasses.

Not a problem I thought I'll just order a basic pair online....

Except I do not have a current prescription....

Any suggestions of how I might be able to get around this under current arrangements please?

Won't the optician you bought them from have your prescription on file? Just contact them and ask what it is, or get them to make you a replacement pair.

Could you phone or email your optician? Somebody might be picking up emails or messages?
They should give you your prescription.
I hope you manage to sort something out. I would be in big trouble without my glasses; I understand how desperate you feel.

Do not have one because your sight test is over due? or do you mean you do not have a copy?

Bu nowhere will make up glasses without a copy of a valid prescription. If they were incorrect and you crashed/fell downstairs/injured yourself you could claim they were responsible.

Glasses direct usually require a prescription less than 2 yrs old but have a statement that the rule has been relaxed.

If you can get a coop of your prescription from the last place you got it done they should be able to accept it

Was your last sight test at a chain or independent opticians?

Thanks for the responses.

We moved house in July so think I was possibly a bit over-zealous shredding and binning paperwork, I do not have a copy. I suspect it is overdue too...
I am very lost without these but they are well and truly bust

@TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 that gives me a glimmer of hope thank-you.

I am going to try and obtain a copy of my latest prescription - I did call earlier but mailbox was full, will try that first thing. I really don't care what frames etc as long as I have a pair I can see with!

Call glasses direct and explain. You can send them the broken ones and they will get the prescription from them.

I would say given the circumstances.. Tell a white lie.. Say its less than 2 years.. That way you will get a pair to see you through till this pandemic is over

doubleshotespresso · 30/03/2020 23:17

Thanks I may have to resort to that though the remains of my glasses are pretty shambolic sadly... I will try all above in the morning thanks for this x

I work in an opticians. We can sort this out for you. Most opticians will have a message system if they have no one on the premises. Our branch is there for these such emergencies with 5 members of staff running things. As long as you remember where you got them they should be able to do something for you. We have been allowed to replicate a previous pair of glasses in this covid situation as long as you are not having any visual issue.
