What kind of food and ambience do you like? There is so much to choose from in London.

Crawley65 · 07/10/2019 14:17

Cocktails in the American bar at the Savoy are good.

Read Jay Raynor's reviews in the Guardian for some inspiration of where to eat. He goes from cheap local type places to uber expensive. He can be quite cutting when it's deserved but most definitely gushing when a place is good.

I like the Mondrian for hotel. Me and DP go stay there sometimes and I live in London!

aweedropofsancerre · 07/10/2019 14:52

I love Duck and Rice too. Cool little Chinese in soho. I would be careful about where you go. Some places are overly priced and in London you have lots of good options that don’t have to cost and arm and a leg. If it is a special occasion I would suggest you maybe start with some lunch time cocktails at the shard.... that’s fun and there are plenty of vouchers available on line so doesn’t have to cost a lot. I went to the gherkin recently and that was pretty amazing too and the bar at the top was amazing especially when night falls

Have a look at this - www.editionhotels.com/london/

It also has a fantastic restaurant underneath - www.bernerstavern.com/

The Montcalm at the Brewery Hotel.. the Wow suite is incredible!!

lostlondoner · 09/10/2019 14:40

Thank you everyone! I will take a look. I'm not sure what sort we'd like. I think, though, we'd prefer somewhere like Ottolenghi rather than The Ivy and a boutique hotel rather than massive 5-star place.

I don't know about restaurants, but if you're after boutique, Batty Langley's is lovely 😊

Tom Kerridge's Bar and Grill is spectacular. seriously good food. Hawksmoor is always great (there are six or seven of them now).

A favourite of ours is Odette's in Primrose Hill. It's small and intimate and the food is great.

cowbag1 · 20/12/2019 09:03

We like the Apex chain of hotels. They have a boutique feel to them and some nice little touches while your there without being expensive. We've stayed at the London Wall one which was really nice but the City of London one is nice too and an an excellent location.

I would highly rate Bob Bob Ricard for something a bit special with lovely food.

Verite1 · 24/12/2019 00:11

If you like ottolenghi, try either nopi in soho or rovi in fitzrovia. Both amazing. Also apparently the coal office in kings cross is meant to be great but not managed to get a table there yet.

Davros · 24/12/2019 18:46

I had a terrible tough steak in Hawkesmoor and went to Bobbibcité in November and it was appalling. I can't necessarily tell you where you should go but please don't go to those
