police helicopter??

Eeeep been awake half the night :(

Police helicopter (I think) was outside at about midnight last night in Walthamstow - my windows were shaking - I went to have a look and it was literally just hovering over our building! All our neighbours started coming out on their balconies it was that loud!

This went on for about an hour - then i went out on my balcony and there was this huge copter thing just above my head -it looked like a massive satalite or something - must say i got kind of freaked out and ran back inside!

Not sure if I was just seeing things in my tired grumpy state of mine - if it was actually just the police helicopter - but in my head I'd just seen some sort of UFO and then my mind racing, heart beating very fast ended up laying awake in bed pretty much all night and am now very grumpy and tired!!

Anyone know what the hell I saw or if there were any incidents in the area last night that the police helicopter may have attended (please say that's all it was!!)

Don't know about your event, but I'm in S London and we often have hte police helicopter out at night. They often circle an area for a while if looking for people hiding. They do come pretty low, and often have a search light on as well. Sounds as though the police helicopter is more likely than a UFO!

I'm in Walthamstow and didn't hear a thing. Mind you I'm dead to the world once I'm out

Wake up and tell my husband i saw a bloody UFO at 6am this morning - he now thinks i've gone mad!

Police helicopter is around very regularly but this time it just seemed very close, low and around for a very long time - plus i've not seen so much lights on one before !!

Possibly searching for a criminal, or a missing person. We live in a rural village surrounded by fields and woods, and it's fairly common to see a copper chopper (stole that off the lego movie ) with search lights hovering for a long time. If an elderly or vulnerable person has gone missing, it's an easier way to look for them at night.

I totally get what you mean about being confused and sleepy though. I used to live right next to a railway line and woke one night to most awful screeching, mechanical noise. In my sleepy state I assumed it was just the weird monster thing off Lost coming to get me. Turned out it was engineering works on the line

NPAS have a twitter account and they sometimes say what they've been up to. Not always though. Don't ask in your local Facebook page unless you want a load of 'catching criminals you'd be glad if it was you' unpleasantness 😉

@Simkin hahah I actually deleted the local facebook group - so many weird angry people on there lolz!! Police are just doing their job etc -

I've no issues with the police catching criminals - if they need the copter for that fine - it's just I'd like to know it was actually the police and knowing what they are using it for would be amazing to know (maybe i'm just nosey)

Have a feeling I thought I was looking up at a UFO last night because i've never stood directly under a helicopter that was that close to my head before and the propellers going around super fast probably would have given it a look of a big circle dish !! I ran back in freaking out too quickly to have a proper look!! haahah

Could it have been a helicopter and a drone? I know MPS have a drone they deploy on occasions

Interesting - possibly - this seemed like the biggest helicopter ever tho - reminded me of the American ones when Trump was around! :(

Oh god - I hope i was just imagining that it was more insane than it was and I can just go to sleep tonight and move on with my life hahhah

Why are people weird for saying the police are just doing their job? You’re wondering if you have seen a UFO. You may need to take a long, hard look at yourself before calling other people weird.

@uokhun25 my theory is that it was very close and the speed of the rotors made it look like a continuous circle plus all the search lights and being sleepy. I wouldn't worry.

It can be very disconcerting having the police helicopter hovering so close. I sleep with the curtains open facing the window and recently saw it in all its glory looking for someone in my back garden and surrounding area. They can get pretty low!
