Moving from London to Beaconsfield

Hello - is anyone able to tell me what Holtspur in Beaconsfield is like please? I have heard it is the poorer side of town further away from the station. Any further information and opinions would be appreciated! Thank you

I don't know Holtspur but I have been to Beaconsfield quite often. There's a woman on here called @hotelredface who might be able to help you. Hopefully she'll see this.

It is the poorer end of Beaconsfield but there aren't really any deprived areas IYSWIM.

Where are you looking and what do you need from the location?

We are looking to buy first home and there are a few properties available near the Holtspur School. We love the Old Town area but can't afford to live there.
My commute to will be easy, but my husband will be commuting into Moorgate.
We do not have children yet, but would like to be able to stay around the area for a while.

There's not really much to say about Holtspur. It's a small area between Beaconsfield and the village of Loudwater in High Wycombe and there isn't really much there. It isn't massively convenient for Beaconsfield station (you would be looking at driving there) and it is on the bus route between High Wycombe and Slough, which also passes by Beaconsfield Station. You might want to double-check the bus info though if you would intend to use it as I heard a rumour earlier this week that the service is being cut and there will be less buses per hour. Other than that, there is only a Harvester, a petrol station and a garden centre in the immediate vicinity.

You would be a short drive into Beaconsfield (Sainsburys's, Waitrose, some nice restaurants and lovely little independent shops) and an ever so slightly longer drive into High Wycombe (more mainstream shops). There is a big Tesco in Loudwater which you could drive to very quickly but it isn't walkable due to a stretch of road with no pavements.

I lived in beaconsfield as a child 40 years ago, we lived in burgess wood road south and I was always popping up to holtspur shops on my bike running errands for my mother. I sang in the choir at the church, st Thomas Holtspur and also was in the brownies there. My brother was at the school. Basically there is/was a council estate, probably most properties are now "private". Times have clearly changed, but I really can't imagine that it's turned into some kind of awful ghetto. It was a very nice place to live, and I understand it still is. Also there are a lot of non council houses there too. Standard family size properties rather than the enormous grand properties elsewhere in other parts of beaconsfield.

How much do you have to spend? What sort of house are you looking for?

Beaconsfield is VERY expensive. It is also very busy in terms of traffic (not Holtspur but the old and new town). Lots of traffic cuts through the town to get to the M40 and beyond. So although the Old Town is very pretty it is often gridlocked!

A big housing estate (Wilton Park) is planned near the M40 roundabout and there is lots of fighting going on in terms of more houses which you may you want to mug up on.

I live in Bfield and wouldn't move here if I had my time again!! Love it but hate it in equal parts. It's so over priced and pumped up. Every other car is a Range Rover and most houses are enormous. My DSs 15&13 have grown up thinking everyone lives in a massive house and drives a Range Rover. That's their reality and it's difficult to show them what real life is like!!

My impression is that it is not a bad area and there does seem to be a mix of houses.

No, it's not a bad area but you will be on the poorer side of town. Average house prices in Beaconsfield are in the region of £1m.

For £580k to £630k, you are looking at a smaller house or ex-local authority house. Nothing wrong in that per se but you can get more for your money outside Beaconsfield.

Depends on what you are looking for but I would look at Seer Green, Penn, Tylers Green, Bourne End, Amersham, Great Missenden.
