Moving from city to Walthamstow?

Hi everyone,

Does anybody have any experience of Walthamstow?
Me and my husband have lived in Hoxton for the last 6 years, right on Hoxton street. It's above a shop - but the place is packed with bars, cafes, 24 hour shops. I can walk to work. It's vibrant....I love it. However, time has come to buy a house and we're viewing one this evening in Walthamstow. What we can get for our money is incredible compared to what we'd been looking at around N1 - and with baby plans well under way, it seems like the sensible thing to do. I mean, 2 bed house with a garden (we also have dogs so thats going to be great!), compared to a shoebox.

I'm just a bit concerned that I'm going to miss being in the hustle and bustle of Zone 1 living...is Walthamstow a nice place to live? Are there interesting things going on? Is there a nice community spirit?

Concerned! Help me Mums!! haha.

tbh these areas are the same I'm born and bred north London in Tottenham for years but go Walthamstow quite apt there's plenty to do lots of nice things for kids and good transport links

Walthamstow gets better and better imo. We lived in Clapton for years which is more lively if that's what you're after? May not be as affordable now tho

Absolutely love it here. Community spirit is rife - neighbours cook and share food, have keys to our house etc. So much to do - Walthamstow Garden Party in the summer, the Bell, Red Imp Comedy Club, hustle and bustle of the market (especially on a Saturday), the village, and so so many restaurants! PM me if you want more info but honestly I’d recommend to anyone. You won’t be bored! And I was a Stokie girl!

Walthamstow is fantastic. I've been there for 30 years (gulp) and in the last few years it's come on in leaps and bounds.

The transport links are great. Aside from the Victoria Line the overground gets to Liverpool Street in 20 minutes. I live near Wood Street (the station after Walthamstow Central on the OG ) and Wood Street is a splendid High Street all by itself with a fab indoor market. Great restaurants, Gods Own Junkyard, micro-breweries, a new 10 screen cinema and Epping Forest is on your doorstep.

It's also right next to the North Circular and the M11 for easy getaways.

I love the place.

Thanks everyone!

Viewed the house and loved it. Offer in, but it wasn't to be.

Weirdly though, think we found the best of both worlds - suburban, yet urban - and had an offer accepted in Brixton. Which is not where I saw myself, but does seem a great area!
