That really.

Dds would like to go.

I'd like to know if it's worth spending the money. It is always a bit of a hit and miss...

I was underwhelmed and normally love musicals. Defying gravity is the only good bit in it IMO.

Wicked is amazing, I’ve seen it close to 20 times 🙈 I don’t think it’s been mentioned, but if you queue up at the Apollo in the morning (quite early but personally worth it) in London, the front row stalls are £25 at the box office!

I love musicals, and I thought it was a bit meh......
Nothing particularly wrong with it, but I certainly wouldn't go and see it again. Most ordinary.

Lion King, OTOH was superb. One of the best things I've EVER seen. I went with 3 teens and they loved it too. It really was magical. I'd go and watch that again and again. I've just been watching a programme about musicals, and it reminded me how good it is.
Without questions FAR, FAR, FAR better than Wicked.

Love musicals - saw Wicked on broadway and was really disappointed, thought it would be fab but the story and staging were really average. Also didn’t help that it was shown in a huge modern theatre with most of the audience chomping through huge buckets of popcorn, speaking most of the lines along with the actors and laughing at any jokes before the punchline was said - it was a totally surreal experience! Saying that I’m willing to give it another try in the west end...

I love musicals but I was also underwhelmed by it. Took DD to see it as part of Kids Week a couple of summers ago - she seemed to enjoy it but I think she enjoyed the experience of a mum and daughter day more than anything. Whereas she saw other shows and came out raving about them, such as Charlie and Chocolate Factory, Stomp, Top Hat.

Really unimpressed.

IamLucyBarton · 03/01/2018 22:57

Thank you all. I might give it a try if I get not too expensive tickets. Thank you for the tip about the box office.

Dds have seen Matilda. I haven't.

Any good tips about tickets for the Lion Ling by any chance?

Without any spoilers - you see some amazing stuff if you are in an aisle seat in the stalls for The Lion King.

I've seen similar threads on here for all of the musicals mentioned and they all have very mixed responses, so I think just go with your gut instinct

I like wicked and I have only heard good comments about it offline, but different people like different things and you can't please all of the people, all of the time

We thought that lion king was OK, but it was more things to look at rather than about the story/plot so although it was OK when we were in there, we didn't really come away talking about it and it's the only thing I've seen in a theatre that I wouldn't go back to watch again (and whole family agreed, and only one DC has said that about 1 previous show) it also didn't have the catchy music that you go away singing and jump up in the interval to see if you can buy the CD. We were lucky with our seats, we thought they were pretty rubbish but actually it meant we could see everything and at one point we had a cast member singing directly to our family for about 3 minutes, in different seats I think we would have found it even less enjoyable

How about Annie? They were on children in need doing a few songs and it looked good, can't beat a classic Smile (you're never fully dressed without a Smile )

Yes its amazing! I love it, i've seen it 4 times lol

ElphabaTheGreen · 04/01/2018 03:10

I know 42nd street is fab. Friends raves about it. But I have a 10 and a 12 yo...

Ideal for that age! Thin on plot, big on visuals! And the tap...OMG the tap...if it's still running in August I'm going again with DCs in tow.

I didn't much like Matilda, and definitely wouldn't take my DCs. Mind you, the Matilda we saw was awful - more Village of the Damned than child-wonder, with awful diction.

IamLucyBarton · 05/01/2018 16:52

Thank you for the tip Corlan.

Think I'll book it.

Stalls or circle?

tracymars · 05/01/2018 20:12

When I booked I tried to do it online. But the site kept trying to put me near the front. Wicked is such a visual feast that you don't want to be too near the stage. I phoned up ticketmaster instead and talked to a human. I got some cheaper seats further back in the stall, to the side and were restricted view. I don't know why they were restricted view. We could see everything and had a eally good view. They might be restricted view if there was smaller actions going on at the side of the stage. But we didn't feel like we missed anything. Circle might be good as you can just sit back and take it all in. I'm afraid I can't do anywhere other than stalls due to a crippling fear of heights.

Saw it on tour recently and loved it! I would watch it again tomorrow!
