Can anyone please help me?

We're visiting London for 1 day and definitely want to go to the science museum in the morning, followed by lunch and a trip to hamleys (6 year old has specifically requested this!) What's the best way to travel between the 2?

Our return train from Paddington isn't until 8pm so i think we would still have a few hours to fill. What would you suggest we do? We'd quite like to see the 'sights' e.g. Big Ben etc but not sure of the best way to do this.

Thanks Flowers

I think the best way is by bus. Go south out of the museum to the Brompton Rosd and get the number 1. Get off just before Piccadilly Circus and it's about 5 mins walk up to Regent Street and Hamleys.

DC under 11 are free on buses and do not need a ticket. Each paying adult needs a contactless card, or an Oyster, or a one day travel card. On buses you only need to swipe on entrance. On the Tube, you need to swipe on entrance and on exit (DC under 11 also free on tube and do not need a ticket if with a paying adult; just use the wider gates and all gomthrough on your swipe)

If you DC are happy to walk a bit, after Hamleys, walk South down Regents Street, see Piccadilly Circus, and the keep going south down Haymarket to Trafalgar Square (stop off at National Gallery?). From there you can walk down Whitehall, past horses (usually) at Horseguards and the Cenotaph, to Houses of Parliament, Big Ben, Westminster Abbey. From there you can walk to St James Park (pelicans on lake, nice playground) and see Buckingham Palace.

get the Piccadilly line tube from South Kensington to Piccadilly and walk up Regent Street

Curses - not the number 1. The route you want is the number 14.

The CityMapper app might be useful if you want to travel mainly by bus.

Thanks both. I think we will try to use buses as much as possible as I think it's nice to see where you're going! Will let you know how we get on after the weekend.

Thanks for all the info. We used the bus from the museum to Piccadilly and then caught another down to horse guards parade. The city mapper app was very useful.
