I started learning Japanese about 2 weeks ago - not sure why exactly - partly for a break from learning Spanish (I'm on day 737 ATM), a new challenge, it looks hard, the three different ways (character systems) to write the language look interesting.. Something strange has been happening recently as a consequence (possibly, I speculate) since I started learning Japanese.
I always say that I have never dreamed very much - of course we all do but I rarely wake from a dream. I feel I do enough - I'll say "day dreaming" but I don't think that is the right word for it at all - I do a lot of thinking, imaginative thinking, playful thinking, fanciful thinking during the day - constantly - every day as I have various creative projects I work on - I just have a lot going on.. my pet theory is that I do all my dreaming during the day. The only thing I seem to do is problem solving in my sleep so solutions and ideas about my work as a programmer used to come to me all the time - either just as I was falling asleep or as I was waking and that is where some ideas for my creative writing also comes from... anyway - I have started dreaming every night and my sleep is quite restless - I have never had a period in my life like it. I'm not eating or drinking anything unusual. The only thing I can link it to is learning Japanese - I wonder if part of my brain - something to do with visual memories - is being activated or over simulated by the fact that I am looking at and trying to learn the shape, meaning and sound of the many hundreds (4000+ in fact) of Japanese characters. I don't know - it's an unusual change for me and it's the only theory I have to explain it. I'm still learning Spanish every day - I just felt like doing something different. Japanese is a nice sounding language. I'm not sure what the point is TBH - I'm just curious.
So how long have you been learning? I'm just using Duolingo ATM as I have a paid subscription for Spanish - but there are plenty of resources on line. I also have 5 Pimsleur audio CD's.
Why are you learning it? How are you getting on?
