9 year old hates English

Any advice? My 9 year old son hates it. He's great at spelling, a fab reader and has extensive vocabulary but getting him to write a bloody sentence is like pulling teeth and he ends up crying!

It's so frustrating, I know he's more than capable and I have to really bite my tongue.

Any advice on how to get him to do what he needs to do?! Or is he just playing me up because I'm his mum

Extremely frustrating! Are you able to contact his teacher and ask a) what he's like in school, and b) any tips that have worked?

My DS2 (11) hates writing, isn't a great speller and would rather be read to than read ... secondary school is going to be hard for him I fear.

I’ve become a bribery mother. ‘If you do this, you can play roblox later’. It sucks but it works. I’m sure it’ll bite me in the ass but for now it works

You just described my DS

OP my DS is super crafty. He even avoids homework by saying his teacher doesn’t care. He spends 5 mins on a 30 min homework saying teacher says it’s fine. Apparently there are no repercussions at school. I sense we both have strong willed children.
I pointed out to teacher this and now have a list of social recommendations from the CAMHS autism group. It certainly wasn’t something I was considering. Usually a good telling off by the teacher is all it’s needed in the past.
