Any teachers out there or people really familiar with Year 1 Maths teaching and curriculum?
Our school is not setting work from or using White Rose stuff but I thought I would have a look as it is working with BBC Bitesize right now. Thought it might be helpful to supplement.
I like it. But DD6 finds Maths hard; she can't concentrate on the videos for a start. There is a limit to how far we can go... I can see that White Rose goes into more depth than our school with adding and subtraction etc. Is that right? It seems that they cover the non-statutory parts of the Year 1 curriculum...
Just wanted confirmation of that really. For example, using bonds to ten to subtract within 20 is more than our school expect at this stage...
Also, to use bonds to 10 to add and subtract within 20, don't they need to know already by rote all the number facts WITHIN 10? In order to partition all the numbers? Our school have not made them learn those yet. These are just some thoughts about it... happy to leave it until DD can cope...
Just interested to hear some views!
