Hi Mums and thanks for letting me join. I'm Phil, a retired school teacher. Back in 2004 I was involved with National Grid for Learning Cymru. My main interest was to design a series of on-line lessons that would look particularly good on interactive digital whiteboards. Over the years, as governments came and went, the resources were left to languish in a dusty cupboard in the darkest recess of the interweb. However, I've managed to find them and I've a feeling that they might be particularly useful for parents and children home-schooling at the moment. Here's one.

Probably suitable for 6-7 year olds.

For nearly half a century, Arthur Bickerton ran an old-fashioned ironmongery in Taffs Well. He announced his retirement at the age of 92. It is said that his shop was the inspiration for the famous Two Ronnies sketch, Fork Handles.

His store was an Aladdin's cave of treasures of a bygone era. This unit includes a biography, an investigation into some items found in the store, and a poetry-writing activity.

Please note that a lot of these N.G.F.L.-Cymru sites make use of the Flash plugin. This technology is considered to be a bit long in the tooth these days but is still available and easy to install, particularly in the Chrome browser. Here's what you need to do.

Hope you enjoy the activity. Would you like more?
