Resources for year 2 creative writing?

Does anyone have suggestions for year 2 creative writing resources please?

DS has just changed schools - his old school gave lots of prompts, word lists, mind maps etc. and they wrote something over a number of days.

The new school is keen on no prompts and just getting stuff down. Our son is not adapting well (with home learning on top of that).. and the net result is he doesnt write anything unless you stand over him. Today it took in excess of 2 hours to get 2 paragraphs. Ridiculous and everyone frazzled. I have tried speaking to the teacher but it didn't really help and now my son has taken against writing and his teacher! I just wondered if there is somewhere that explains how to help children write i.e. the steps to take and what support / tools to give them. I am in the dark..

(He is bright, can spell fine, very good reader, vivid imagination - just resists getting things down on paper).

Hello. I had this problem with my children although they are 10/11.
A teacher friend suggested I gave them a list of good describing words/metaphors etc whatever it is he is supposed to be learning to include in the story.
Also a picture of a scene with some prints “describe how you would feel on the walk up to the scary house? What do you think is inside? What will happen next?”
My DP did a task one day with the DC’s in which he gave the 5 words to include in their stories “mouse/king/disappointed/adventure/moral” and that worked well for our children of all ages!

Look at www.pobble365.com/ and www.onceuponapicture.co.uk/ - they have loads of picture prompts to inspire writing and provide key questions/things to think about/ideas for activities to get started with each as well.

Word mats/lists you can get from twinkl website. Here is a link to free writing resources for Y1 and Y2 so you might need to shift through to find what you might need: www.twinkl.co.uk/resources/free-resources-parents/english-free-resources-parents/year-1-and-year-2-age-5-7-english-free-resources-parents

Hope this helps

I was going to say Pobble365. You can go back and choose different images from past days to get one he likes.
I also wouldn't stress about how much he writes. I'd rather what he wrote was better quality
