Laptop recommendations

I am looking for some laptop recommendations for DS (Yr5) ideally would prefer to spend less than £250 but would be ideal if it could last him at least to the end of Prep (Yr8), so at least 2 years of use.

Thanks

I got my dc the lenovo ideapad s145 it was £299 in argos. Ds1 is in y8 ds2 in y5. They have both been able to do lots of school work on it and it was fairly easy to set up

I've also bought my DS (Y5) a Lenovo Ideapad. It's not arrived yet so can't comment, but we have Lenovos for the kids at my school and they are fine.

My DS's prep are going onto BYOD and I think this period of remote working, and the systems they have had to set up for it, will really accelerate that. They recommend Microsoft Surfaces- but there is no way on this earth I'm paying that much for a computer for a 10yo. I've told DS that if he does a good job of looking after this laptop for two years, we might upgrade him for Y8.

My thoughts exactly reefed. He will just break or lose it.

Just bought one for my yr8 DD from argos... Arrived yesterday... 3 day delivery. Looks good so far... Only thing is no webcam

Asus vivobook e406

Thanks orange. I think a webcam will be essential as they will need to log on to Microsoft Teams next term

We have bought Lenovo c340 which is a chrome book for £299 from Currys. It is pink and my daughter loved the design. However we later realized that as a chrome book it has a number of limitations such as Microsoft Office is only available via an app etc. She is still happy though and uses it for online schooling with no problems and the design is truly lovely.

My son has been using a chromebook for the last year at school. It's been a godsend in lockdown. Easy to use and does everything he needs it to for school work. You would definitely get a decent one for £250. Am considering getting another for DD too as sharing my macbook pro with her is wearing a bit thin.

I recommend an HP laptop, they have a good range to suit most budgets, are well specified for the price points and have high build quality. Frequent winners when lists of best student laptops are compiled too. I have bought two now for my DC and have no regrets, they have lasted really well both in terms of wear and tear and the computing power to cope with software as it updates etc.

They have a student store that claims to offer 35% discount but I would always price check with other retailers.
