Lockdown learning
Online Coding course for yr8 child
Bigfatpicnic · 05/04/2020 18:43
We have 2 weeks of Easter holidays and obviously need to stay at home. My yr8 child would like to do an online coding course. He has suggested Python, which he has some very limited knowledge on from school.
Frankly, I haven’t got a clue what’s what. I have googled and there is so much on offer I don’t even know where to being or what to look for. Can anyone recommend a suitable online coding course for him.

Try IDEA.... A mix of coding and ICT skills.. Plus a certificate at the end... Very useful... My yr8 DD is waiting for gold level to come out.

If he wants to learn Python, OP, this is a good website to start: blog.withcode.uk/
If he is after designing as a whole, he can try JavaScript with //www.code.org and choose App Lab or Game Lab (And he can learn through using blocks or typing in the code directly.

Just to report back, my son has started IDEA which he really is enjoying and going to try one of the other suggestions once he has finished IDEA. Thanks for all your suggestions.
