Google Classroom - seeing all other students work?

Ds2 tells me that when he submits work he can see all work submitted by other students. One teacher has therefore requested that they just print their work off and hand it in when they come back in.

I am wondering if Google Classrooms has been set up correctly by the school. Are there any knowledgeable people on here who can tell me whether this is an issue with GC or whether this is a set up issue?

This is so not a teacher bashing thread, I think they have done amazingly considering the circumstances. The children were initially given work booklets but now work is being added to Google Classrooms.

Are the teachers creating assignments or is everything posted in the stream? If it’s in the stream then everything there is shared so if the children add their work it will be visible. Assignments work differently, each child can add their work and it will only be visible to them and the teacher. You can also then give private feedback and have conversations that are only between the teacher and student.

Thank you that makes complete sense.

It is set as a stream but Ds2 (like blood out of a stone) tells me some teachers now use assignment. My friend was also worried about this but her child is in the year below.

I think this must be a learning curve for everyone Smile

I’ve had this and have then had to put a “don’t post your work here, you need to upload it in the assignment” comment!

If it’s any help, mine have got much better at posting it in the right place this week!

It should be set as assignment. Then work is only visible to the teacher and child. DD2's school has it set so that the children can make class comments and private comments.

We have this with Seesaw (primary). It's one of the first things I raised when mine started e-learning two weeks ago but apparently I'm unreasonable for having an issue with it.

Lougle even though I’m setting mine as an assignment I still have kids uploading it on the class comments section at times 🤦‍♀️

We’ll all get there Smile

It is a learning curve for sure, for teachers, students and parents. I will get him to upload stuff as an assignment even if it is set in stream. Thank you.

This is for secondary school, year 9. Ds2 was concerned that other children will just copy someone else's work. He's probably not wrong. He is a very conscientious student and has a very black and white view of rule breaking stickler

I don’t think he will be able to submit as an assignment if it isn’t set as one. The way it works is that submissions are attached to the assignments they are in response to. I think he will need to ask the teacher to create the assignment (even if it has not content) and then he can add his submission. I hope that makes sense!
