NEED HELP: Opinion of Patcham High School?

Moving to BN1 and need Yr 8 place for DD. Patcham and Falmer have spaces. Heard Falmer is dire but have heard nothing about Patcham. Ofsted inspection was 3 but that was 2007 - anyone got any more recent experience of the school?

well....
ds went to Patcham
it wasn't brilliant(he left 2 years ago) but has vastly improved.
Falmer....would never send a child there.

thanks for your reply 2shoes. Was it discipline problems or bad teaching or something else?

not sure really.
i think that a lot of it was dicipline, but sometimes a school has to fail for the people in charge to realise how bad things are getting.
since ds left, the intake has changed due to the change in the ctachment area, so that might have helped as well.
do you know where/which part of Brighton you are moving too?

noddyholder · 13/05/2010 12:26

I agree with 2shoes it has definitely had a much changed intake since the catchment changes.I think it is improving

2shoes · 13/05/2010 12:27

but that is why Falmer will now not improve iynwim

I know ds has several good friends from patcham high that he ahs met through skating and tbh they are no different to any other kids from his school in terms of politeness etc etc.A lot of it is a reflection of the parents

Older DD has place at Varndean College to do IB so want to be in that area. Moving from small international school with no discipline problems so want to avoid a 'Waterloo Road' scenario.

my friend teaches at patcham. it is improving, she has lots of great students and some terrible students. she says it is getting a lot better and they were the most improving school in brighton last year.

Looking at Patcham too -- noticed this thread but saw it was several years out of date. Anyone got anything more recent to add?

NrV0us

Patcham has vastly improved, it was on our list of choices & we have several friends with kids who go there - all love it & our friends boy with significant special needs absolutely loves it, as does his mum

I wish it was closer to us or I would have loved DD to go there
