New to Eastbourne and keen to meet mums!

I'm a mum to a toddler (boy) and pregnant with my second (girl) - due in June. I recently moved to Eastbourne from London and would be keen to meet other local mums / mums-to-be.

I was previously working in PR in London, but hubbie decided we should buy a guesthouse by the seaside, so here we are! So far loving it, but would like to know a few more people...

Hi, am in the process of moving to Eastbourne ie just sold ad bought and going through the whole process. Should be there befpre the summer. Have a 3 year old girl and 11 year old girl. I expect you will be even more settled by then but maybe a meet up as fellow aliens in Eastbourne would be good!!! Lorraine

Hi I've been in Eastbourne for the last 3 years, originally from Bath, and have a 3 1/2 year old son and a 1 year old son. You've obviously been here for a while now, how you finding things? I found it quite hard to meet friends here initially but slowly getting better... Can I join in as a fellow alien? x

Hi! Another alien here too! Moved to East Dean (just outside Eastbourne) a month ago. I'd be up for meeting some local Mamas if anyone's organising anything. I've got a 10 month old baby boy.

Definitely up for a chat too -I'm a 35yr old cello teacher and I've an 11 yr old DD, a 7 yr old DS, and a 14 mth DS - if you want a few locations suggested, I quite like the Bumper Bookshop on Grove Road - or we could always go 'posh' and meet at a hotel - it annoys the crap out of them, but it's better than meeting at 'Shades'!

Knof have you started looking for a place yet? I haven't actually lived there yet, but I did find that the more we looked the more the place grew on me and I felt we'd made the right choice. Do you know what parts you're looking in?

Hi, we're looking within walking distance of the station because we will both be working in London still but only part time. So around Old Town and Gilredge Park. I love Eastbourne but obviously have doubts that I know no-one and will find it difficult to make friends. Are you or will you be working?

You can always meet at my parents hotel

It is called Langham Hotel and they are down on the seafront near the Pavillion between the pier and Treasure Island.

I have seen several groups of Mums having lunch in the bar there (very quiet during the day and good food).

I used to live down there (for about 3 years). There are some great baby groups especially the one held at the church in Westham - think it is on Tuesday afternoons. Treasure Island is brilliant out of termtime too. I struggled to make friends there to be honest but I am not great at it anyway. The surestart centres are all over Eastbourne and are great for getting involved.

Hi everyone

Knof, I'm working part-time in London until September, and will be staying there mid-week (with DP and DS too) but only for a couple more months. In September we're both becoming full-time mature students.

I think it's much easier to make friends in a new area now I'm a mum. Sure most people you meet won't end up being life-long friends. But one or two might.

Gildredge Park is lovely! Particularly the Manor Gardens bit at the top, really pretty. I was thinking that might be a nice place to suggest a meet up with the DCs. (Although I'm up for a meet-up without kids too!)

Hobbit Mama, that bookshop looks great! Would it work to maybe meet in the bookshop and then head to Gildridge park when the DCs have had enough?

nikki1978 (youngster! ) thanks for the suggestions, I'll definitely look up our nearest Surestart and Treasure island. Shameless plug duly noted I find restaurants / cafes / pubs quite difficult right now though, DS (17mo) gets bored quite quickly sitting at a table, and all he really wants to do is run around. Some pub gardens are great, but mostly it's more trouble than it's worth

Hi everyone,

We have two children DD 4 in July and DS 2 last week.

I'm trying to convince my husband to move to Eastbourne at the moment. Although to be honest I'm not entirely sure myself! We live in Brighton at the moment and love it here, but would really like a bigger house and garden. Our daughter starts school in September so we need to decide quite quickly. We're looking at going to Willingdon village. And hopeful that DD could go to Willingdon primary. I think my main worries are making new friends, and also that from what I remember about living in Eastbourne previously (8years ago) is that it used to be rather 'chavy' for want of a better word. Is it still like this???

Anyone have children of similar ages?

Hi everyone... so thrilled to find this thread! We moved to Eastbourne from London in April (i.e. me, DH and two DS aged 4 and 3-in-August).. we are in Old Town area and I absolutely love it here!!! No regrets whatsoever. We moved down here for the boys to grow up in a safer place.. but also because my DH's family all live down here.

I have managed to make a number of friends by joining the Vicky Bees toddler group (held at Victoria Baptist Church on Eldon Road) - it is a 'churchy' group but everyone is lovely and makes you feel very welcome.

Also, I'm a keen crafter (the clue's in the name ) and have made some great friends by joining a scrapbooking club in Hailsham.

I would love to meet up with other mums in Eastbourne (alien or otherwise!).. and if you're interested in cardmaking/scrapping, well that'd be a bonus!

I have not tried Bumper Bookshop yet.. but did stumble into Gildredge Park a couple of weeks back looking for a loo for my desperate 4-y-old.. it's a maze, isn't it?!!

Hi everyone! I am married and have a 3 1/2 year old daughter. We moved to Eastbourne 2 years ago from Tunbridge Wells, but we find it quite difficult to make friends, the few friends that we do have all live in Tunbridge Wells, it would be great to make some more friends down in Eastbourne, we live in Langney, are there any parents who live nearby?

Hi! We are currently in the process of making our way down to Eastbourne from Tunbridge Wells (been here about 5 years, was previously in London) We will be staying in Herstmonceux looking at house and move later in the summer. I have a 3 1/2 year old boy, a 2 year old girl and am expecting my third in June.

I'd love to meet up with some of you before my third baby arrives so we can get our foot in the door so to speak!

Can anyone recommend a good removal company, and any nurseries?

Wow found this thread and realised just how hard it can be in Eastbourne to make friends. I think half the problem is people grow up here and they already have strong friend/family bases. As you can see it is changing though as more people move into the area. I have lived in the willingdon village area for nearly four years and would love to meet up with you all too. I have a 5 year old son and a nearly 1 year old son

Hi there everyone,we moved down from Horsham about 6 years ago, I have 2 girls 9 yrs old and 2 yrs old.
Even though I have lived here for quite a long time I still haven't made very many friends, even the other Mums at school are happy to chat but make no move to meet up socially. The couple I was really friend with have both got jobs now so can't meet up in the week.
Would love to make new friends and have other children for my daughter to play with.
