Crouch End hairdressers - which do you recommend?

Hi there,

My central London hairdresser who I have used for years has moved away so, as a busy mum, I thought I would try to find a local hairdresser instead.

There seem to be hundreds in Crouch End and I don?t know anything about any of them so it?s a real gamble! I've had some disastrous haircuts in the past, so I particularly want someone who listens to what you want and actually does it!

If you?ve tried a number of local hairdressers and have a recommendation, I would love to hear from you. Also, if you?ve tried a number of stylists at the same place and have a favourite then please let me know who!

Many thanks xx

Charlotte Green in Muswell Hill is on the more expensive side but very good.

MissTea · 28/02/2010 13:10

Thanks Wobbegong, do you mean Charlotte Murray? A few people have mentioned her but I haven't heard of Charlotte Green...

sorry, yes you're right, I think Charlotte Green is off the radio! what was I thinking...

Anyway, Charlotte Murray. Very nice. Actually listens to what you want. Gives no obligation consultation if you pop in.

MissTea · 04/03/2010 14:05

Thanks! Anyone else? What about all the hairdressers in crouch end? Anyone tried any of those? Or is Charlotte Murray really the only one worth risking?

Thanks for your help xx

I have been going to Charlotte Murrays since they opened after trying a few others in the area, Emma has always done my colour, I can trust her to always do a good job and to come up with new ideas when I fancy something different. Jules currently cuts my hair and I am really pleased with it,I would recommend both of them very highly.

Pulp on crouch end hill is really good, the girls in their are really friendly too and Mary makes a lovely cuppa, prices reasonable too x

StokesyN8 · 22/06/2010 11:19

Yes definately Pulp, I have been going for years and have Eva or Isabella. Be prepared for loud music, but they are all lovely and really friendly.

verytellytubby · 06/07/2010 21:39

Pulp and I used Isabella last time and it's the best colour I've had.

MissTea · 28/07/2010 12:18

Brilliant! Thanks so much for all your advice

I know I'm a bit late on this thread but being recently new to CE I tried Toni & Guy (usual T&G did their own thing), the organic one on Tottenham Lane (ok) and Elysian Fields on the Broadway (opposite Budgens). At Elysian Fields I had a great cut & colour and they gave me wine whilst I was having it done. They also offered extra treatments (like hair mask with scalp massage - yum) in the downstairs quiet bit, which was nice.

I thought it was quite pricey but I moved to Crouchers from Birmingham, so I think that's just "London prices".

Hope this helps

hello - just to u/d this thread with a new recommendation. after reading this i tried pulp, which was fine, but rather noisy for me and not that relaxing! next time i thought i'd splash out and go to charlotte murray and it was ok but for £60/£65 no more than ok. still, i did intend to go back until the hairdresser i take the kids to, on stroud green road n4, 'blossoms' said she'd love to do my hair and knew exactly what to do with it. and she did! i got a cut and a colour for the same price as a cut at charlotte murray and am delighted with both. obvs looks much better cos i could afford to get the colour done (charlotte m had tried to persuade me but the starting price was £80 for colour alone). so i can really recommend her.

since i went there i found out a couple of other people go to her too - she's a bit of a well kept secret!

also the dcs hair is adorable and everyone comments.

after years of living in stroud green and heading to crouch end for haircuts i can now relax and know i go back to her again and again and keep colour up and everything. what a relief!

I know it's been a while since the last post but i thought i'd write in anyway in case anybody is still interested. I have tried all the salons in Crouch End as i have lived here for quite a few years and most of them are ok. I did however try a place called Avalon in Weston Park and it was definitely the best. I have been back there four times now and it seems consistently good. Friendly too and they have a section for children with books, toys and even a TV with children's movies. Definitely worth a try. Good luck.

Great tip, thanks for sharing.

richteaplease · 16/03/2015 14:42

I've tried loads too. started with Elysian Fields way back when (now closed), but stopped when I had to tidy it up myself one time - with the kitchen scissors! Have since been to Pulp (OK) and had a cut by the top stylist at MP4, which was great, but he's a bit out of my price range. Am now going to Avalon, Weston Pk - which was recommended by a friend - the main two stylists there are both great and not too pricey.

whosforacuppa · 17/03/2015 09:25

I also jumped from the sinking ship of Elysian Fields over to MP4 (by the clocktower). I have tried most of the stylists there and they have all been great, although Marta is my favourite.

ANNEJEN123 · 17/04/2015 15:09

Thanks to this site my friend and i both went to AVALON in Weston Park and we loved it!!!! Great stylists and really friendly and not pretentious at all!!! Thanks guys for your for the recommendation.

CarolAlm · 22/03/2016 18:17

I went to Avalon on Weston Park the other day after reading this thread and had a Stylist called Victoria. I must say it was one of the best hair cut and colours i've ever had. She's really friendly and professional. Really great salon, a hidden gem!

CarolAlm1 · 10/06/2025 13:57

Does anyone know which hair salon is the best in Crouch End? There’s so many I don’t know where to start!

Alexandra1234567 · 12/06/2025 09:51

I love Avalon in Weston Park. All the stylist are really good. I’ve had balayages, haircuts, high lights even a root melts there and they have all been exactly what I’ve asked for. I personally think Avalon is the best hairdressers in Crouch End. Hope this helps.
