Hi.
About to move to Hamilton Road and trying to research local nurseries for DS. I think the nearest it Young Sussex Nursery on Dyke Road. Anyone know if its good?!

Also, a bit ahead of myself but been thinking about primary schools and it looks like Stanford INfant school will be our closest... anyone out there got any recommendations or otherwise?!
thanks

I've not heard great things about YS, I'm afraid. Know lots of parents who've moved their kids to Blueberry Nursery from Young Sussex. Apparently the staff are all young and on the 'detached' side; people have told me they're not good about attending to the children in a communicative way. I've heard several stories of people looking round the nursery and seeing the staff standing around gossiping or looking bored.

Blueberry is fab but has a massive waiting list. Apart from that I don't know anything about other nurseries nearby, sorry.

Can very much recommend Hopscotch nursery on Nizells Ave (opposite St Ann's Wells Gardens).

Blueberry is the local one with the best reputation, but YS is fine. Both my DC went there for about 4 yrs in total. Lots of kids go on to Stanford from there so it's great for continuity and making local friends. Stanford is great, but the headmistress is retiring this year so there are bound to be some changes.

Hi with regards primary school, make sure you google 'journeyon' it is the local councils site for calculating journey times and distance, which also matches the distance used by school admissions.

Stanford is oversubscribed, so firstly go to journey on and put your new postcode then the postcode of Stanford, if you are well within half a mile you have a chance.

However, do check also with school admissions to see the latest max distance for this year admissions!

But with the current crisis in primary places, parents are renting right on top of the schools, so you need to get as close as you can, especially with the city on the verge of running out of places in 2011!

Unfortunately too many parents have to their misfortune have overlooked this issue, with 217 families in 2009 unable to get any of their 3 chosen schools.

Best of luck!
