Anyone have an American carseat they could lend me?

Does anyone have an American manufactured carseat that I could borrow for the last two weeks of November? We are flying to the US for Thanksgiving and need a carseat for our 7 month old son, but apparently the airline we are using will only accept a seat that is FAA approved, and that is impossible to buy in the UK.

We are having the same problem, I spoke to Continental today and they said as long it is a 5 point fastener, 16 inch wide and can be straped in with a lapbelt its ok to travel with.

Hmm, will they give you that in writing? I'd be confident about getting it onto the flight from Edinburgh, but we have a transfer from Newark, and I'd be worried the US flight crew wouldn't be so flexible.

I didn't ask to get it in writing, (should have) but we also have a transfer from Newark and I asked about domestic flights and he said that the same regulation apply. I think that they see from the Itinary that you are coming from Europe.

Can't help with an American car seat, but we've just been / come back from America and we were fine with a Britax Prince. We had no problems flying back from LA - no-one checked what standards it complied with. We did however have a few issues leaving Edi airport as the guy on the check-in desk was adamant that we weren't allowed a car seat on the flight - my advice is take a print out of the companies policy to show that you can !
I am more than happy to lend you a car seat back pack carrier - it means you can carry the seat on your back around the airport (not with child it in though !).

Hiya Goalie, thanks for that reassurance - good to know. And I will definitely be printing out a copy of the policy to take with us!

The loan of a carrier would be awesome! Thanks so much... We've actually managed to get hold of a US seat to use, but the thought of lugging it round the airport is a nightmare! If you want to drop me an email on ruthcameron2004 at yahoo dot co dot uk maybe we could arrange something?
