I was offered one automatically first time around (2003) but when dd was born 2007 nobody offered and I wanted to refamiliarise myself (dS had arrived at home in the end) I had my midwife appts at rsch anyway so just asked and they showed me around again there and then. I'm sure if you ring the maternity ward they'll be delighted to arrange a tour. I can recommend the birthing pool! Good luck!

you have to ask and they are often oversubscribed. This was the case 07 and 08 when I had my daughters there.
tbh 2dd's in rsch no tour = no problem...it's not like the crystal maze!!!
I was paniced but it made no odds

What the others said, you can if you ask. It is helpful, just to give you an idea of what to expect, the layout, the parking etc and you can ask lots of questions. Both my dds were born there.

Good luck

When I was about 36wks pg with DD (2006) we were brought round after the ante natal class. But I think they only do it if its not busy.

I got a tour date sent automatically in 2006 and i was probably about 36 weeks. That was all I got tho in terms of ante natal care and at the end of the day that wasn't my biggest issue. I would have preferred more preparation on how to deal with the pain !!

they stopped doing the tours while I was pregnant - baby born in April. I just asked my midwife though and she showed me around. (I was also seeing my midwife at the hospital though).

They don't do tours of the unit anymore - I had db3 there just coming up for 3 weeks ago and my community midwife said wouldn't be poss when I asked about looking round (i was n the same position as you having moved here at just over 20wks pg). You can however take a virtual tour of the unit via a website that has been set up - google mypregnancymatters (all one word) and you should find it - can't give the exact add as was written on my notes and I don't have them any more. Website is still being developed but you should be able to get quite a bit of info from it. If you haven't been given an obs consultant yet you can state a prefernce and Mr Holden is very approachable and pleasant if you want a recomendation. Hope it all goes well.
