Hiya

johnworf · 07/07/2009 07:50

Just noticed there were posts (finally!) on this thread

Brilliant to see so many local mums.

Sarochka great to hear that your scan went well. Another tick off the list

Hawkmoth you're just up the road from me.

The only class I'm taking K to is the soft play at Besses Children's Centre. I'm giving it another week (tomorrow) to see if it gets any better. If not, then I'll be taking her to Bury baths on a Weds for the mother and baby swimming group.

I'm told there's a good M&T group at Hollins which I might also try (I hear a rumour they serve cake )

At least the hot weather has gone - great news for your pregnant ladies! Now it's all dark and black and wet here. Not complaining though

Johnworf - is the soft play not working out then? I'd go for cake myself - always a good idea .

johnworf · 08/07/2009 20:19

whitewine it's an ok class. Just a bit small and the toys they have I already have at home. Give it a go if you like and see what you think. You have to book a place the weds before to get on the following wednesday IYSWIM

Hi Hawkmoth, I didn't really choose NMGH, the midwife just put it on my form and I haven't asked her to change it. Am keeping fingers crossed for a home birth, though hear that 40% of end up in hospital so may have to go there afterall.

Not really keen on hospitals in general but they do have a talent for saving your life if you need it. I had an ectopic last year and NMGH did me proud (though still hated every moment I was awake there)

I heard Tameside has a proper birthing centre but its a bit of a way from Prestwich and think i would prefer to be at home if poss.

Good luck to everyone due now!

suwoo · 10/07/2009 18:48

What about Hope Hospital? That has a birthing centre and lots of ladies from Prestwich go there, my friend did.

I am traipsing to St Marys for my section in 20 days time.

johnworf · 10/07/2009 19:00

I live in Unsworth and I chose to go to Hope instead of Fairfield and god forbid, NMGH. In the end I had her in none of the above but we did spend time in St Marys NICU/SCBU.

You can choose your hospital as it is your right to do so. Your MW cannot insist that you go to a particular hospital

MrsChemist · 03/10/2009 21:37

Hello I live in Whitefield, but originally from Bolton.
I requested to go the St. Marys because I work near there and I knew they were opening a new hospital just before I was due. I've not heard many god things about NMGH. However, the community midwife said that it was getting an overhaul some time next year, with a new midwife-led unit.
Might consider going there for the next one if they haven't sorted out the construction site that is MRI. I had a 5 minute waddle to the front door whilst I was in labour.

suwoo · 03/10/2009 21:41

Mrschemist when did you deliver? I had DS2 at the new St Marys on 30th July. Its a long walk to the door isn't it, I wasn't in labour as had a section but the walk back to the car after the section was hardgoing. Nice hospital though, I was really pleased overall.

I live in Whitefield too.

MrsChemist · 06/10/2009 14:02

Good to hear I'm not the only one in Whitefield
I had DS on the 26th of August. I was pleased with St. Marys as well, it's just that it is a bit far away from Whitefield. My uncle picked me up and he managed to eventually find his way round to the front door, so not much of a walk leaving, but I can imagine that it would have been very unpleasant having to trek to the car after a CS.

MrsChemist · 08/10/2009 13:37

Has anyone been to the baby soft play at Besses Childrens' Centre? I know it says 0-1yr on the leaflet, but I'm wonderin if 6 weeks is too young to get anything out of it.

suwoo · 08/10/2009 22:23

I would say def too young to get anything out of it. My DS never woke up at that age. I am going to baby bistro tomorrow, so can ask for you if you want?

MrsChemist · 09/10/2009 15:31

Oops, sorry only just seen this thank you anyway. I think I'll be doing baby massage soon, especially as DS is windy and I've heard it helps.

Im 22 weeks pregnant with my first!
Im desperately looking for any antenatal classes in Whitefield?? Or the Prestwich area.Does anyone know of any at all? Thanks

LowLevelWhingeing · 06/11/2009 18:06

They used to hold them at Whitefield Health Centre, but you have to book them through your midwife anyway so she should be able to tell you.

Congratulations and good luck!

Mumtobe1990 · 10/11/2009 19:00

Thankyou!!
I didn't even think of that place! Much appreciated!

sarochka69 · 05/01/2010 17:34

Hello!

Just in case johnworf or suwoo are still here, wanted to let you know how the birth story finished.

We did 14hrs at home (including 4hrs pushing) but ended up being transferred to nmgh. They were really good (lucky to have a consultant who was pro active birth) and had a keillands rotation forceps at 6am. They knew i wanted a 'natural' birth so did everything they could to help me with that.

Despite my absolute dread of the post natal ward it was actually okay. They helped me with the feeding and gave dh a chance to get two 10 hr sleeps before i came out with our new daughter.

Totally agree its all down to the luck of the draw on which staff are on and what kind of mood they're in. We were really lucky!

Hope you are well and enjoying the snow!

suwoo · 05/01/2010 17:44

Yes I am here actually. Glad to hear baby arrived safely although not quite as planned.
Sex? Name?
