Mimi

Hi, I'm also in N15, have a 17 month old and am back at work full time at the moment but will be on maternity leave from just after New Year, second baby due at the end of January if you're still looking to meet up with people then. Whereabouts are you? We're near Chestnuts Park if that means anything to you.

There are baby swimming lessons at Tottenham Green pool on Philip Lane but it's quite hard to get booked on to them. They're £50+ a term which is a lot less than private lessons, but there are a couple of cheaper options:

There's a FREE session called Splash at Wednesday mornings at that pool for parents and under 4s. It's not lessons but it's songs and games and it's free, it's funded through one of the Council's Children's Centres in our area.

In Hackney an organisation called Greenwich Leisure puts on baby swimming lessons at several pools, nearest to N15 is Clissold Pool, just past Clissold Park a few minutes walk from Green Lanes (341 bus).

When I was on maternity leave there were some lovely baby groups - Baby and Me was Tuesday afternoons from 1 at Downhills Park Primary School (on Philip Lane at the West Green Road end), there was a group at Broadwater Farm Children's Centre Thursday afternoons, and there's a a toy library session/music thing at St Ann's library on Monday and Saturday mornings. dp usually takes our son on Saturdays.

There's also a singsong on Thursday mornings at Marcus Garvey Library (inside the Leisure Centre where the pool is) at 11 am on Thursdays - I never made it to that one but ds goes with his childminder and another little boy she looks after quite often. Although DS still doesn't sing at the time, he's shown that he enjoys it and often sings the words to himself later.

Hope some of this info is of use to you, do post if you find anything good to go to.

Hi Elkiedee,

I used to take my son (he is 18 months now) to Marcus Garvey Library to Thursday morning singing sessions but when we went there last time (a couple of months ago), we were told it was the last session!
Looks like your little one is still going there?? That's great news for us as we absolutely loved it! Silly me not checking it out then...

Have you heard about swimming lessons at South Harringay J School (mattison rd). A couple of people told me about baby swimming classes they run on weekends but I can't find their contact details... :-(

Thanks

Hi, I am new to this site my due date is 8 March 2009 I am looking to meet other mothers in the Highgate/Muswell Hill area

elkiedee · 26/10/2008 22:01

Irinka, maybe they meant that they were having a break for holidays or something? I think my childminder is still taking ds to Marcus Garvey, although not necessarily every week, some weeks it sounds like he's been asleep all morning.

Not heard of the weekend swimming classes you mention but ds usually goes to a music/toy library session at St Ann's library on a Saturday morning, though dp takes him mostly at the moment.

demme, if you look at the Haringey local threads there are quite a few new mums especially in Muswell Hill, although as they're looking to get out with 6 month olds now their babies will be quite a bit older than yours. There's also information about various groups on those threads.

Hi Mimi!

I tried to private message you, but it seems your setting don't allow this... Im 29, I live in N17 off philip lane, and have a two and half month old daughter. please get in touch if you're interested in meeting up! I want to do baby swimming swimming etc too!

Shanna, Mimi's daughter will be over 2 now. There's free baby swimming activity at Tottenham Green in term times - when your daughter is 6 months you can take her.

Have you tried any of the children's centre baby groups? - Tuesday afternoon at Downhills School and Thursday pm at Broadwater, and there are library singsongs at Marcus Garvey - sometimes the local NCT group meets up there.
