Gerrards Cross, Berkhamsted or Beaconsfield for schools and family life?

Hi mums! We are thinking of moving with our two sons (age 1.5 and 5) to either Gerrard’s Cross, Berkhamsted or Beaconsfield. We are currently living in Epping but unfortunately the recent social unrest has made us reconsider where we’re bringing up our children (particularly as the secondary school options are poor / limited).

However – we have an active lifestyle with the children in the local area which we really like and don’t want to lose – my sons attend a Friday night cricket club, swimming lessons, karate class and Saturday morning football. There is also a regular cadence of local community events such as a donkey derby, classic car show and Christmas carols on the green which we like to attend.

Out of the three locations mentioned, which would be best suited for an active family and which have the best options for primary / secondary schools? And where would we be easiest for all of us to make friends in the area? We are hoping this will be a ‘forever home’ move. Thanks so much for reading!

I don't know much about Berkhampstead but Gerrards Cross and Beaconsfield are both very nice. Property costs are high because of that

Both have plenty of clubs like cricket, football, swimming etc as well as community events like summer fairs, Christmas markets etc. Perhaps not a donkey derby though. I think that might be a bit niche to Epping.

Primary schools are good. The Secondary school system is Grammar with children sitting the 11+ exam for school selection.
