Primary schools in Reading Central/East

Hi,
We're moving back to the UK from overseas and looking to move to Reading. Based on what we've seen, we like East Reading / University Area. What do people think of the primary schools in the area? Alfred Sutton and Redlands are the ones nearest to where we would like to be. AS seems fine but it had a small catchment area in some years. I know Redlands had some bad OFSTED reports in the past. Does anyone have kids there now?
Also I don't know if we will find a flat exactly where we want. What about other schools in that region? New Town / Katesgrove / E P Collier? We specifically don't want a faith school.
I know Wokingham schools are good but then it becomes a little to far from the station to commute to London.
