Family relocating

We are hoping to move from Chelmsford to Saffron Walden. We have 2 boys, 7 and 9. We’re considering offering on a house in Littlebury; It’s seems like a perfect balance between country side and town. Is this the case? Is there community in Littlebury? It’s difficult to get a feel for the place. We’d eventually like the boys to go to Saffron Walden County High, with so many variables, it’s hard to know if they’d be likely to get a place? And for primary schools, I’ve enquired at RA Butler which is full but they have places available in Great Chesterford. I’d love some local insight/knowledge/advice please?

Hello, i've just come across this while searching for something else.
I've lived in Saffron Walden for the past 15 years and work at SWCHS.

Littlebury is lovely. Great village, nice park, good community.
Children would be unlikely to get into one of the oversubscribed town primary schools from there, but Chesterford, Clavering and Newport are all good village options.
SWCHS is great and of all the villages to move to, Littlebury would be the best bet of getting in without living in town.
