Experiences with St. Paul's C of E & Sancton Wood Primary

Hi everyone, my family is moving to Cambridge for 1 year starting this summer, and we are trying to choose a good school for our kids, ages 6 and 8 (going into years 2 and 4). We are choosing between two schools that will both be within walking distance of our rental: St. Paul's C of E (our local state school) and Sancton Wood (a nearby independent school).

Because we are moving from the USA, we haven't had the chance to visit either school. Instead, we have been relying on material on the internet to try to build a general impression.

We would love to hear from folks with first hand experience with either of these two schools, to help us make our decision.

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to Cambridge! Your main problem will be whether St Paul’s has space for your year 2 child. At that age there is a legal fixed class size of 30 or less, so if the school is at capacity then they won’t be able to admit.

Are you looking for September entry? You will have to act quickly -Sancton Wood have already broken up for this year and state schools finish next week or the week after at the latest.

If I were you I would go for St Paul’s and save yourself the fees at Sancton Wood!

Hi LaterSkater, sorry for missing this at the time. I know a handful of America parents who made a similar move. I have direct experience of one of those two schools - happy to share more if helpful. I suspect you’re all settled now.
