Is Onslow Village a good place for young families

Hi all,

My partner and I currently pregnant with our first child and are looking for areas in Surrey to move to. We want somewhere close to a station for commuting to London, but also close to great state schools and facilities like cafes / restaurants, as well as parks, tennis and golf that has a good friendly community feel with lots of other young families too where we could meet new friends.

We stumbled upon Onslow Village but don't know much about the area. We have been advised that it could be filled with lots of students given the proximity to the University?

Is anyone able to advise on Onslow Village? Or any other recommendations on areas would be much appreciated!

Thanks!

I'm afraid I don't know about Onslow Village, though I see it's very close to the busy A3, so not sure if there would be noise from there? I came on to suggest Godalming which has everything you have listed - lovely community to bring up a family in, surrounded by beautiful countryside, with the extra amenities of Guildford very close by.

I think it’s ok, definitely some cheaper roads with more students and more affluent areas. The houses around the popular state school are very expensive. County is a top secondary school and very desirable. there are two good state primaries there too.

So definitely visit before buying or renting. You are within walking distance into town and the station (which will be a building site for another 1-2 years).

You are also fairly close to Surrey Sports Park (good for swimming, gym, kids activities, tennis etc) and the Royal Surrey (hospital).
I don’t think there is noise from the A3 but probably depends where you live.

IMO it’s getting less and less studenty perhaps because they’re priced out. It’s definitely not the cheapest area. I don’t think there is any traffic noise from the a3 but some roads are very busy (like anywhere in Guildford).

It does also depend what you mean by Onslow - estate agents use it very broadly! The village itself is very family friendly but a walk into town especially coming up the hill! Nearer county there are still a lot of families and it’s more walkable but it’ll depend your budget, whether you want a drive etc.
