New thread for new month!

OP posts:
MrsRecycle · 10/04/2008 13:05

I had 5 years of them with dd2 so got used to it (but tell the newborn mums lol)

fitfox · 10/04/2008 13:33

Twounder2 - in the long run, you might find BF takes up less of your time (with no prepartion/sterilising time etc) but it is hard going at the beginning isn't it? I tried the last feed at night FF thing but it didn't last for either DD or DS2. With DD it really effected my supply - then I got engorged etc as I need her to remove the milk. With DS2 he just refuses to take the bottle. I am still BF fully and he is now 13 months old - I can't see him stopping BFing for a long time but I have to say I am glad I persevered as it is so much easier to BF - once you get passed that newborn/feed hourly phase.

It might be an idea to start a thread on the BF/FF threads, but be warned that people get very emotional about the feeding issue and often a row breaks out . You may get some sound advise, you will probably also get some not so helpful comments.

Ooh I want to cuddle a newborn

slng · 10/04/2008 13:48

foxie - I've not seen the bf/ff threads but I'd bet it's a bit scary! Like the SOHM and WOHM thing.

I was lucky with ds2 - he was a speed-feeder, 10-15mins max and I often wondered even if he had anything, but he kept putting on weight (lie - we didn't weigh him much but he LOOKED like he was putting on weight) and seemed happy! But I stopped after 6 months... Couldn't face it after they get all grubby with solids!

SushiMummy · 10/04/2008 14:53

QC - we need to take our (still) poorly cat to the vet on Sat morning. Maybe early afternoon?

Paddle - are you moving again? Sorry have I missed anything?

fitfox · 10/04/2008 15:18

Slng - DS2 used to take 30 minutes for feeds but can now do a full feed in about 7 minutes. He is very chubby and well-fed. Your LO must have just been a very efficient feeder

I remember DD used to take precisely 20 minutes from the day she was born and used to feed precisely every 3 hours, then every 4 hours for about 10 minutes when she was older. Very efficient girl!!

DS1's feeding was all over the shop!! . His suck was so hard it was like being attached to a vacuum cleaner!!

rosmerta · 10/04/2008 15:24

hi all, only seem to be getting on 1 a day atm!

Sj, mellow & sfx, hope the baking session went well!

Foxie, give me 8 months & you'll have a newborn to cuddle again

Twounder2, sorry I don't really have any advice re mixed feeding, ds was ff and yes, a bf thread does tend to get a bit heated!

Sushi, am to hear about your cat. Hope he'll be ok.

With the excitement of the baby I completely forgot we're going away this weekend. Got a fab deal on a hotel & spa with a golf course so we're going with a couple of friends, boys off to play golf & girls to the spa!

rosmerta · 10/04/2008 15:26

Re BNP, we were at the bus stop outside Kew Gardens and there was a leaflet stuck to the post. Needless to say, I tore it off, ripped it up & ds put it in the bin. I wish someone had seen me do it

sfxmum · 10/04/2008 15:36

ros that is what we used to do to the BNP posters when we lived in Hounslow.
enjoy your weekend, not having to cook is always a plus imo

dd got REALLY territorial so I did the baking, eventually it all calmed down and she did not want them to leave, all the excitement left her tired so she retreated to the sofa sucking her thumb for a while
lovely to have you around SJ&Mellow

foxie if you don't mind me asking are you still bf?

paddle so that is what you meant

slng · 10/04/2008 15:41

I think we might bake something ... Saw a recipe for a banana tea loaf. Am slightly ashamed to actually have all the ingredients for impromptu baking - seems a bit domestic ...

bunyanvillas · 10/04/2008 16:21

Foxie - lol at being attached to a vacuum cleaner! Exactly how I feel. We made it to Kew today and I spent the entire time feeding (having spent the 2 hours prior to leaving home feeding). Might sneak a peak at the bf threads but not sure if I want to get involved in anything too controversial what with the old hormones being all over the place! PC, what's happening? Are you just sussing out some options but haven't made a "big decision" yet? Ros - I could do with a weekend at a spa, sounds great

I just got back from the hairdressers.

Sfx,
Thanks for hosting. Dd and I had a lovely time. It was also great to see you SJ.

Can I ask the name of the agent of the property you put an offer on so I can steer clear of them?

OP posts:
SJ99 · 10/04/2008 18:14

Glad you made it to hairdressers Mellow, I'm really looking fwd to going tonight. Might try and sneak in a power nap Foxie style Really nice to see you and Sfx earlier & your cute DD's. The muffins were a big hit, DS asked for another one just now!

Short version of house story - vendor asked to speak to us directly as she (and we) suspect agents was trying to play us off with 'the other bidder'. She is really pissed off with them as it has left her with no bids. We said we felt under pressure to produce a higher bid by 10.30am yesterday and she said that was rubbish and she would've accepted our offer but we weren't told that by agent, strange. Anyway we will think about it over wkend and give her the final answer next wk. I guess the moral of that story is never trust an estate agent

Ds also bf - it is personal choice as KC said.

Ros - enjoy your spa wkend, sounds lovely

We're off to Donacster 1st thing tom for DH's cousin's wedding. When we get home my parents will be staying with us. Hope everyone has a good weeknd!

purplebee · 10/04/2008 19:13

Hello there,

Reaching out to mums for a little reasurrance...my husband has take ds (seven months) to see his great grandparents and extended family in Nottingham, I couldn't go because I'm working and I am alone in the house and missing him terribly! I know he is with his dad and doting grandparents (who have been living with us to help out for two months so ds is very bonded with them) but I still feel so guilty!
In June, my husband and I are both working in Ireland for three days. We had planned to leave ds with my parents and my sister but now I'm not sure if it's a good idea. My mother and mother in-law think I'm being neurotic, but I'm not sure I am...love to hear any thoughts you might have or if you've left babies for a few days without either parent.

Paddlechick666 · 10/04/2008 19:42

evening all, just popping in to say hello again.

work is utterly utterly crazy and very intrusive on MN time

in the bf discussion, dd bf till 15m when she self weaned. think we were both ready. totally personal choice but am aware the advice is not to mix feed due to supply being affected etc. also they say no bottles before 6 weeks don't they? to avoid nipple confusion.

sj, go on, name and shame the agent! thanks for heads up, i will bear in mind this weekend. i know when i bought this place the agent told my vendor i was chain free which was a huge fat fib!

purplebee, welcome to the West London Posse. sorry to hear you're missing your ds so much. completely understandable.

i'm near hounslow and have dd 2.5 who is, as we speak, staying with the GPs for a couple of days. she first went at about 17m and I worried frantically adn missed her madly. She had a great time and now goes every 4 weeks or so.

Being a single parent it really helps give me a break.

I'd say see how this little break goes before you make any decisions about Ireland. I'm due to go the US for work in a couple of weeks and I am getting quite twitchy at the thought of being so far away from dd.

Right well, as I was too tired to meet friends after work for a drink I am ordering a pizza and pouring a glass of vino.

It is very much Glug O'Clock on Planet Paddle!

ComeOVeneer · 10/04/2008 20:35

I would put money on SJ's agent beginning with an F (speaking from personal experience when we bought this house).

stepfordwife · 10/04/2008 22:31

oh gawd, whenever breastfeeding is mentioned i think of - and believe me i don't want to -little britain's 'i want bitty' sketch..

yes, lau, do get your flakjacket on for bb/ff threads. gets quite feral

stepfordwife · 10/04/2008 22:33

kew, glad you've graduated to merely feelng ill...

sfxmum · 11/04/2008 09:20

good morning all

not sure what we will do today but glad it is sunny

hope you are all well

purplebee hi and welcome, I guess you should do what you are comfortable with, guess that is a bit of vague answer but really it is very much up to you.

2under2 how is it going? hope you are ok

sfxmum · 11/04/2008 09:22

steppie tut tut at bitty honestly woman!

fitfox · 11/04/2008 09:32

Steppy I haven't seen that sketch!!

SJ - is it Featherstone L then???? Go please do tell. Good luck with your decision

SFX - yes still Bfing and will continue until Chubba wants to stop. He is very possesive of me and my mammaries atm so will probably continue for at least another 5-6 months maybe more.

fitfox · 11/04/2008 09:33

Purple - sorry have no advice - neither of my parents have ever offered to take the DCs.

Oh my sister took them overnight whilst I gave birth to the third and they were fine actually

Agree with Paddle, see how the first break goes. It would be useful tohave the option of overnight grandparents care

sfxmum · 11/04/2008 11:04

foxie he must be so big now

dd has been talking a lot about bf& boobs since watching nursing the other day

gaelsmama · 11/04/2008 11:46

hey there everyone! what is going on with this London weather - as soon as I buy coats it turns warm (okay well not exactly warm but...)

sfx how funny about your DD. you would have laughed at me nursing in a pub yesterday! i still can't believe there are changing tables in pubs.

bunyan i can't believe you're out and about already! i'd love to meet you next week at Kew - we can BF side by side - if you're up for it?

purplebee sorry i responded so late on the other thread but i am at home and would be very happy to meet you and your wee one soon.

steppie i will have to youtube that sketch hmm.

gaelsmama · 11/04/2008 11:50
