Hi Derby mums - just discovered this when playing around.
I wonder if any of you have any experience of the way Derbyshire handles applications for places at Secondary schools, DD is in Year 5 so we need to start thinking about it. Had thought it would be simple - starting to realise it's not!

hello Bundle. You have to contact the education department, they will send you out a form to fill in with the schools you want your child to attend. These have to be returned by a certain date (I don't know what it is though). Then you wait. This is the state system. The private one is a bit different.

What area are you? And what are you looking for? My ds is in year 5, he's going to a new school in September that is a primary and secondary in one (if you know what I mean) so we've skipped all this. I roughly know about the state registration though as my friend has gone through it with her son. If I can be of any help just let me know.

bundlebrent no personal experience but a pal has just got a place for her yr6 son at the secondary she wanted (derby not Derbyshire as they are different LAs)- don't think it was a problem at all.

What are your concerns?
