Tutoring for Kings Cathedral School entrance exam

Hiya,

My son wants to try the entrance exam for The King’s Cathedral School Peterborough. He has completed the sample test on the website and he didn’t find it too bad.

id like to find a tutor to work with up until October if possible. I don’t suppose anyone has any recommendations, particularly of a tutor that might be familiar with what’s needed. Ideally the focus needs to be on verbal reasoning and maths.

Thank you.

Hi,
Have you found anyone yet? My daughter is also interested in trying.

Did you do this? My dd got in this way (she's now at uni). I went through past papers with her. You really don't need a tutor you just need to help them get familiar with the questions.

Hello everyone,

This was interesting to read - thank you for the information you've all shared. I was just wondering how you are all feeling post-Kings test. Would you say the test was what you expected? I have been looking at the sample paper provided on the Kings website and was curious to know if this was similar to the actual test. Any advice?

Thank you :)

My daughter sat it this year. She said the past paper on the website was fairly representative but in the actual exam the maths section was slightly easier and the verbal reasoning was slightly harder.

Thanks for replying. Ah ok that's good to know. Verbal reasoning carries the most marks so we've been focusing on this recently. Were the same topics repeated in the papers across each subject? Trying to get my son in line with year 6 curriculum and hope that is enough.

It’s difficult to answer whether the same topics were repeated as we only had the one past paper available on the website and what my daughter remembers from this exam.
I would say kindly that if your child is not already in line with the year 6 curriculum they might find it difficult. If you can afford tutoring, I would recommend it.

I believe between 300-400 children sit the exam. Best of luck.
