How exciting to be starting thread

Yay, thanks Sfx, am already looking forward to banana bread, mmmm!

In Sweden they had Noise Police (everything is so formally governed over there) but what a great idea, they used to go and put a stop the noise polluters, no messing.

sfxmum · 22/02/2008 19:09

foxie - happy anniversary to you both

KC are you around? do you still want to go tomorrow? or would you rather postpone?
but I am happy to go btw, dd saw ponies and says she wants a ride

fitfox · 22/02/2008 19:48

Ros/Steppy - DS2 was banging his head against the wall today!!

DH bought me some flowers and the Cava is on ice . DH doesn't drink though, so am having a drink with lodger instead

slng · 22/02/2008 19:51

happy anniversary foxie! Is lodger back with husband?

Sesame ginger cookies highly recommended! Really nice and easy to make - but baking cookies with ds2 is a race: ds1 and I try to make as many as quickly as we can while ds2 tries to gobble up as much dough as he can. Nightmare. Don't know why I do it.

fitfox · 22/02/2008 19:57

Slng - dissappointingly he is not coming for another two weeks! Lodger just made some yummy sesame and veg soup which she let me taste - very healthy and delicious. Embarassingly I was cooking DCs fish fingers tonight . Am waiting for a Tesco delivery tomorrow so am all out of fresh veg

Your biscuits sound amazing

Paddlechick666 · 22/02/2008 20:30

evening all! welcome back eh!

well, I am on dd free for the 3rd night in a row and i miss her but it is bliss also!

been crazy at work all week. things are getting very high powered. in response i have, today, purchased a very corporate trouser suit and matching shirts.

i figure either way it will come in handy. if i balls up it will be a good interview suit

also did some major research on group 3 car seats. dd is 99th percentile for hight and weight ie: that of a 3 -4yrd old child. broke my head doing the calculation in the red book and it would seem she is destined to be 6"

congrats and huge respect to Mr & Mrs Foxie! Hope you're having a lovely evening. did the cable work?

ros, i think that's "normal" but clearly quite scary for you. dd has not done this but she is very adept at being very very loud instead!

oh, cute thing to tell you all. dd's fave song is Old Macdonald but this week instead of animals she's been inserting body parts.

so Old Macdonald has on his farm a "chin" which presents me with ishooos on what does a blood chin do!

She finally progressed to inserting her own name so Old Macdonald had a DD and I asked her just what exactly does a DD do then?

her reply? "loves her mummy"

ah, the joy, the pure joy!

thank god for GPs eh? glug o'clock is here, i've had a warm bath and pizza is on it's way.

please please please can i sleep past 6am tomorrow?

ComeOVeneer · 22/02/2008 21:49

Evening all. Well today was a waste of time. We went to Il's yesterday so children could see "grandma" over half term. She omitted to tell me FIL was off work with a chest infection and hacking cough on ab's (prob not contagious ). Terrible traffic at CHiswick roundabout so took over 2.5 hours (cue whiney children). Dh then phones to say he is working really late so won't meet us at IL's for dinner as planned. Meaning I have to drive home (so can have wine to help get through the rest of the day ). DH gets home sometime after 5am so despite having the day off today to spend with children and let me have a rest, he sleeps until 1.30pm. He offers to take children out for lunch but they have already eaten so tries park instead. DS has an uncharateristic hissy fit and refuses to go without me, so I get dragged along too. SO much for my day off. So looking forward to the rest of the weekend. DH has only just realised that next Sunday is mothers' day and has planned to go out for brunch with friends. Then asked me if I had bought any wrapping paper and had any cards lurking around as he had forgotten to get both and needs to wrap my birthday present (for tomorrow). Suffice to say we are now not talking, I am in bed with laptop, chocolate and wine, and am tempted to tell him to take the children to party/ILs tomorrow and not come back until Sunday night!

ComeOVeneer · 22/02/2008 21:50

Oh and Happy anniversary, foxie.

rosmerta · 22/02/2008 22:14

happy anniversary foxie

Cov, hope you have a better birthday weekend.

Thanks for replies re headbanging, it was just the fact that he seemed to test it first before properly banging his head!

Dh is currently laughing at me as I've been boasting about how good I was in yoga tonight & yet I've just fallen off the sofa

Kewcumber · 22/02/2008 22:29

yes ROs head banging perfectly normal. DS has a modified version where he hits himself n the head - I htink he has found it hurts less. I pretend to ignore it carry on speak ing etc but put my hand over the bit that he's hitting.

ComeOVeneer · 22/02/2008 22:45

Unfortunately the weekend is unlikely to get any better Ros but thanks for the good wishes. Tomorrow consists of dd's swimming lesson, driving toIL's for lunch then on to Stanmore for a joint 3 and 5 year olds birthday party, back to ILs', then dh and I out for dinner (only good part if we are talking). Staying over nightat ILs' then dh disappears off to football for the rest of the day I get to stay with MIL/GMIL/ and other assortment of relatives for lunch, then bring children home, feed them and bed, get everything ready for school/nursery on Monday. Dh will roll in about 8pm. Can you tell who is feeling sorry for themselves?

On a positive side, I have decided to try my hand at earning some money making cakes. It appears I have areasonable skill in this field. I am aiming to spendthe next couple of years honing my techniques, through friends/family etc, andbuild up a portfolio (I can also do some mock ups, where you use foam cakes to show-off the decorating purely for photographic purposes). Hopefully then when ds starts school full time. I can build it up to a more full time thing, obviously it being something that doesn't involve childcare. Not exactly a profesion, nor a big earner, but it will (hopefully) earn me a small income (eventually) and it is something I would really enjoy. I did contemplate catering, but don't think I have the room/energy to do that on a big scale.

Hope all of you that went to the toy meseum today had a good time, and enjoy the farm tomorrow>

mellow2 · 23/02/2008 09:43

Hello everyone,

Happy belated anniversary foxie.

I just got back from Malaysia about a week ago. I hope everyone is well.

Sushi,
Is there a Gymboree class in Kew? I checked the website and they only list classes for Chiswick and Ealing.

Has anyone been to the Chiswick and Ealing classes? I seem to recall you mentioning that you take ds to the Chiswick class.

sfxmum · 23/02/2008 10:00

hi Mellow welcome back, we must arrange to meet up, I need some bags

cov - please go do something selfish, bit of a cheek asking for paper and cards. Happy birthday again.

paddle hope you had a bit of a lie in .

I remember last time we were out cov asking if I slept ok, I might have been smug, so paying for it now, last night I dreamt of some terrorist type attack but things were falling from the sky

on the plus side had a nice jog this morning, dh thought I would have a lie in but not keen on closing eyes

stepfordwife · 23/02/2008 10:08

happy birthday, cov.

welcome back, mellow. hope you had a fab time.

woke up this morning to ds1 and ds2 reacting key scenes from primeval
ds1: "the doorway can be the anomaly.."
ds2: 'i'll just get my special zapper weapons ready.."
ds1:' no, no, NO..you're just an ordinary public person you don't know what an anomaly is..you haven't got any weapons.."
ds2: 'oh...."
ds1:' look, tell you what, you're just a kid, right?"
ds2: 'nooooooooooo, i want to be connor, he's the cool guy."

at least they know the word anomaly now...

have a good day, everyone
toodlepip

ComeOVeneer · 23/02/2008 10:39

Morning all. Awful night last night. DH couldn't get to slepp so disturbed me unti l 2.30am, then there was a helicopter over head at 3.45. I too had a wierd dream about aliens and flashing lights and something sitting on my chest restricting my breathing, so much so I actually woke, but it was the helicopter andits flashing/search lights coming through the skylight . Managed to get back to slepp only to be woken by ds about 40 mins later. The children were awake at 7am, and despite several pretty hard kicks dh didn't budge, so I gave up and got up with them.

They are fed/dressed/bedrooms tidy/dishwasher unloaded/bags backed for tonight/washing hung up/clean put away/another load on, then dh finally surfaces. He has taken dd swimming, ds is playing bob the builder with his work bench he got for christmas (that I finally put together this morning). DH gave me a cook book stand for my birthday. So I have just indulged in a spot of amazon shopping to purchase a few books to go on said stand.

Did anyone spot my business idea down below?

ANyway enough of my moaning, hopefuly we can achieve some sort of happy birthday over the weekend. Have a good weekend everyone (good to see you back mellow), and enjoy the farm today, (fingers crossed it stays dry). Catch you all next week.

fitfox · 23/02/2008 11:07

CoV I think its a great idea - you enjoy catering and you are very good at it. Why not make it into a business? You can work your hours around the Dcs.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

Thanks for the anniversary wishes everyone

Mellow - was thinking of you yesterday (spooooooky) - nice to have you back - how was your trip

SFX welcome to the world of abby-eyed parenting

off to Windsor today to visit DDs best friend in their new house and sample the shops and some home made Tapas for lunch (friend is Spanish)

SJ99 · 23/02/2008 14:53

Happy Anniversary Foxie, hope you enjoy your day out too, yum tapas

Happy Birthday Cov, hope your wkend gets better. Catering idea sounds fab especially as you enjoy it so much

Welcome back Mellow, how was your trip?

Ros - you must've done well at yoga if you fell asleep, very relaxing

SFx - glad you enjoyed the jog

Sorry I bailed out of going to the farm , was looking fwd to it but DS doing 2 activities back to back was always going to be tricky and I didn't want to cut short boys time seeing as DH only sees DS at wkend. Hope you had fun though, was farm any good?

PC - cute DD with song DS now progressed from saying his 'willy like a sausage' to his 'belly button like a bean' and his 'eyes like raisons', very observant

OP posts:
sfxmum · 23/02/2008 18:03

hi nice to see a few of you today, dd was very happy to make friends as she puts it.

dh had baked some bread when we got in and is now cooking dinner - bless him

it took me a while to defrost but warm bred and tea helped so I was off to the shops for a little indulgence and child free time

sfxmum · 23/02/2008 18:05

btw foxie what is abby-eyed parenting?
I am new at this

Kewcumber · 23/02/2008 20:12

I enjoyed the farm would defintely go again - I much Prefered it to Hounslow and although not as good as Bockets has the advantage of being FREE

fitfox · 23/02/2008 20:36

SJ LOL at "Willy like a sausage". DS2 has observed recently "dog poos which are willy shaped"

Toilet humour phase starts around aged 2 and finishes around age 50 in men methinks....

SFX - "Abby eyed" is when you are so tired you cannot spell even the simplest of words

Glad farm trip was good - sorry I missed it this time - weather was nice and warm today wasn't it - good day for a farm visit.

Mrs R how was Museum yesterday? Very [envy} I didn't get there. I had "cant-be-arsed-itis".

"Discovered" Windsor today and have decided we should all move there. Gorgeous houses - very Richmond like but a wee bit more affordable and very pretty, fabulous shopping and laid back "out of London" feel. Even had celtic m usicians in shopping street (reminded me of Dublin). I mean, it even has a castle.

Discovered a fabby shop too and purchased a tres trendy cupboard with loads of storage.

fitfox · 23/02/2008 20:38

oooh the shopping was soo good ...just about managed to control myself. (- ish - we actually did need some decent storage)...(honest Guv')

Kewcumber · 23/02/2008 20:39

blimey your DS2's language has advanced since I saw him about a week ago

Weather at farm was fine but bleedin freezin*

fitfox · 23/02/2008 20:43

QC - Tee Hee -ooops wrong boy. Of course I meant DS1 .

Windsor was warm but I suspect it is always pleasant in Windsor...its that kind of place

DS2 can climb downstairs as of this morning, Very carefully places foot down on lower step etc. Very [proud] of the wee fella

QC did DS like the animals?

We should go back to Bocketts Farm but on a day its not peeing down (would still like to watch that piglet race someday)

Kewcumber · 23/02/2008 20:51

I lived/worked in Windsor for 4 years. it is NOT always warm.

Kewcumber · 23/02/2008 20:54

DS is a little nervous of animals - he was much more taken with the ride on tractor. Which he adopted and waned me to bring home. Stragely though he is quite fascinated by birds. He was horrified by the most enormous and quite the ugliest turkey I have ever seen. He generally shudders at ugly or large animals but he was as mesmerised as he was horrifies by this one. HAve to say I was with him there.
