How exciting to be starting thread

Yay, thanks Sfx, am already looking forward to banana bread, mmmm!

In Sweden they had Noise Police (everything is so formally governed over there) but what a great idea, they used to go and put a stop the noise polluters, no messing.

Kewcumber · 20/02/2008 11:34

ooh bugger is it? No idea - I'll go take a look at the thread !

sfxmum · 20/02/2008 11:49

sushi it is a dilemma but I guess you will have to do it at some point if that is what your job entails.
I would be happy to help up but I do have reservations about looking after children other than my own, maybe we could talk at some point and by September dd will be going to the same nursery

about saturday, dd has been glued to dh whenever he is home and totally ignores me if at all possible anyway, must ask how she feels about going to farm without dh

SushiMummy · 20/02/2008 12:51

sfx - thanks. We are going to ask PIL tonight to see if they can, if not, then the babysitter. Wish me luck!

Sorry it's all about me, me, me this morning. Hope everyone is well.

Kewcumber · 20/02/2008 13:02

we had a big speech development in the kewcumber household - gherkin-kun has progressed from "yeah" to "yeth" I'm ridiculously excited and he sounds soooo cute!

bekk · 20/02/2008 13:39

Wow thanks for the quick response. Good to know theres such a friendly network of people I will def get in touch again if the big move does go ahead. We're a bit torn as to whether to stay in north London where we do have alot of friends or be brave and try somewhere new and having visited Richmond a couple of times it is lovely esp. being on the river. Well we're still undecided XX

ComeOVeneer · 20/02/2008 13:44

Hi bekk. Funnily enough we moved from N London (Woodside Park) down here (a wee bit further out than Richmond to just outside Esher) in January of last year and love it. We swapped from a small 3 bed terrace to a big 4 bed townshouse, great school for dd, lovely nursery for ds have made tonnes of friends (both locally and this lot on here), and haven't regretted a thing. DH's commute to work (in the city) takes pretty much the same time, we regularly pop back up to N London to see friends and dh's family.

rosmerta · 20/02/2008 14:43

Hi all, very cold today but we've been to Kew retail to pick up a birthday present & then to the park by the river.

How's everyone else? Sushi, no advice re travel but I'd be happy to help out if you need it.

SJ99 · 20/02/2008 14:50

Hello all

Well done Gherkin, great progress and v. cute!

Foxie - Good to hear minicub is back to form, what a horrible time for you all

Sushi - is business trip non-negotiable with your empolyer? Long shot but could you ask to delay it until DH less busy maybe? Otherwise might be worth calling that website I sent you in case they can assist for the 5 days you're away. Will be hard being away from DS I'm sure

Hi Bekk - We just moved to Twickers 7mths ago and love it here! There is plenty to do here everyday, whatever you're into and everyone has been really great on this thread. I have 2yr old DS and started going to playgroup twice/wk and luckily met some great mums there. Also do swimming, Kew and ad hoc classes. Good luck with your decision

Enjoy toy musuem those going, would like to try it sometime but admit the long journey puts me off

sfxmum · 20/02/2008 15:45

KC well done gherkin

SJ how is wales? rubbish weather here.

dd wants to go swimming tomorrow so I might oblige as I need to pop to Richmond anyway

does anyone want to come along?coffee afterwards?

Kewcumber · 20/02/2008 16:49

I'm going to go to Childs PLay cafe on Friday am in time for the 10.30 keep fit class (or whatever they call it) and may stay for lunch if anyone wants to join me. They do a good kiddies bangers and mash (big enough for mummy to have a sneaky share)

slng · 20/02/2008 17:18

Kew - ds2 at the advanced age of 22 months can only say "yeah". In fact he only says it in response to interrogative "yeah? yeah?" from ds1, and he says "yeah yeah yeah" after the fashion of that dog in that Dastardly and Mudly cartoon. Most of the time he shakes his head. Don't know where he gets this "deny everything" attitude from ...

CoV did you go to Bushy park? Is the sand pit open yet?

sfxmum · 20/02/2008 17:38

the yeah yeah yeahs are a New York band I believe, maybe showing early musical tastes?

KC keep fit for toddlers? is it like Tumble Tots? dd not keen on following instructions

sfxmum · 20/02/2008 17:49

btw I can't find the Child's play cafe website any more, no links work and one tells me it is closed?

rosmerta · 20/02/2008 19:44

sfx, I couldn't find the CPC website either, maybe they're redoing it? I've got a leaflet on the fridge if you want me to get any info for you!

How's everyone?

bunyanvillas · 20/02/2008 20:02

Hi, just checking in - everyone ok? SJ, how is Wales - good weather? Braved Lollipop Club today, it wasn't too bad - for the first 10 mins lol! Have also been to Bunny Park, Carluccios and - of course - Kew Gardens!!! Am trying the art class tomorrow. Am convinced this baby is going to arrive super-early, it is verrrry busy and I'm knackered already

sfxmum · 20/02/2008 20:26

thanks Ros, but it is ok, just thought when KC mentioned it, to check party details it is still early but just getting all figures in.
might go over there sometime next week

hi Bunnyan how early? any evidence or just a feeling?

will go swimming tomorrow, I think, Carluccios a good idea for lunch, might do Lollipop on friday, will see.

Kewcumber · 20/02/2008 21:01

Gherkin is 27 months so mini-slng is probably on track for the same wonderous breakthrough strngely his other very clear words are "NO" and "MORE"

I have no ideea what the CPC keet fitty thing is like sfx just thought I'd try it - if she doesnt like it you can always wander off to another room.

Tonhights drama was DS locking himself inmy mums car (ouside our house) I had to drive to her house to try (unsuccessfully) find her spare keys. By the time I had got back with plans for calling the police, he had bored of the game of knicking on the window and chuckling at nanny and had been coaxed to open the door Little bugger thought the whole thing was hilarious!

slng · 20/02/2008 21:18

Kew - ds2 is picking up words at a great speed, and getting really quite tantrumy (again) - I think it's him begin annoyed that we don't understand his important pronouncements. Problem is, it's difficult to guess which language his oration is in ...

On the subject of locking in/out - once my friend locked herself out of her flat (one of those doors that shut itself) and luckily she did teach her little boy how to open the door!

fitfox · 20/02/2008 21:48

Hi just a quickie (..as the actress said to the bishop)

Hi Bekks - there is a Baby Cafe at Richmond Health Centre which you could go along to to meet Mums with newborns, and very active local NCT groups to meet for coffees. Lots of drop in activities as others have said where you could go. All the local churches have weekday late morning drop ins and there are lovely places like Climbers and Creepers in Kew Gardens, the Lollipop Club etc etc. Its a bit of a Nappy Valley here due to excellent primary schools (oh I sound like an Esate Agent) so there are lots of places for Mums to go with their little ones.

Go on, move to Richmond, you know you want to

Have been taking DCs to 121 swimming lessons all week and DS2 has been promoted to the next class up. He's a bit behind some of his friends as he only started lessons in Sept. DD is becoming a lot more confident in the water and says she loves the instructor

Sushi I have been trying to find that house on the internet and just can't find it. It was in Marble Hill, 3 bed and very pretty - may have been detached single storey but looked very special. I thought of you ...

eleusis · 21/02/2008 08:17

Hi everyone. I have the day off... yay!!! Although, I'm back at work tomorrow.

We are attempting potty training with DS and it is not going very well. I was really hoping to have him trained before we get on a plane to Chicago in April. It's not looking good.

Next week is current nanny's last week of work. It's always a bit sad when one goes, but at the same time I am looking forward to the arrival of the new one. But, there's lots of work to do to get ready -- not the least of which is the very scary state of nanny's room. And that is one thing I will not miss!

Kew, what is this arty thing in Twickers on a Saturday thaat you mention?

I'm also off work next Friday (29th). Is anyone around in the early afternoon? I have a toy sale to attend at DD's school, but could sneal a quick hour or two to meet up around lunch time. Maybe a cafe or something around Twickers/Richmond?

Kewcumber · 21/02/2008 09:05

rush off to the Deen City afarm thread and stake your claim for a time to meet...

Ele - there is an art class (I have it bookmarked at home so will send link later). Starts at 10am, quite close to A316 so location good for you. Costs £5/6 perchild but there may be reductions for siblings. I think it would be suitable for both your two. Childrens ages range from 2-7ish.

ComeOVeneer · 21/02/2008 09:13

Morning all. Glad to see the sun is out today. We opted for an indoor baking/arty day yesterday as it was to miserable and cold. So didn't make it to Bushy. Today I have the joy of lunching with MIL and spending the afternoon there, meeting dh and staying for supper. At least I have tomorrow to look forward to (dh has the day off work and is taking the children off my hands - to make up for the lousy birthday weekend I have to look forward to).

Kew glad to hear you managed to extract ds from the car. I had a scary similar situation with dd when she was a similar age. She ran into her bedroom and pulled the door shut (having a mini tantrum about something) and managed to slam the door closed and wrench the door handle off along with the spindle thing that allows the door to open, so although the handle was on the outside of the door it didn't do anything. Added to this the window was wide open in her room. I panicked and called dh at work (like he could do anything ), and was reaqdy to call the fire brigade to smash down the door, when dd cleverly managed to reinsert spindle and open the door.

SushiMummy · 21/02/2008 10:51

Morning all.

Foxie - thanks for the info. Marble Hill, hmmm, sounds lovely but maybe not as nice as Kew?[smug emoticon]

QC - at Gherkin-kun's ability to lock himself in. Glad all ok in the end.

CoV - happy birthday for Saturday!

PIL will be here to look after DS while I'm in Tokyo. Phew! Thanks everyone!

MrsRecycle · 21/02/2008 11:44

COV - Happy Birthday for the weekend. Who knows ILs could be taking LOs off your hands so that dh can take you away tomorrow?

Sushi - glad panic is over and all sorted, what a relief for you.

Ele- I'm off today but have to go to Eastbourne to pick up LOs.

KC - I told you the car episode the other day was just the start, didn't I?

Very apt that I have pick up LOs today as ds (18 months tomorrow) decided to lock himself in their bathroom to clean his teeth. He finally let ILs in after gentle persuasion with a big smile on his face. dd1 isn't too well so it looks like she has this bug (that I now have as well but must solder on).
