Looking to buy a new house - Newton Mearns, Bearsden or Bishopbriggs

Hi Mums,

I am a newbie and this is my first post ... so a big "Hello" to all the fab mums here..

We moved to Glasgow a few years ago and my husband and I have always lived in the City Centre (ina flat) close to our workplace. We welcomed our son in 2020 and we are thinking of moving to a house not very far from the centre.

I was looking at some places in G67 postcode in Newton Mearns. Does anyone know more about this place or could you suggest locations that I should be looking at in Newton Mearns please.
Also, do you think which location is better Bishopbriggs or Bearsden or NewtonMearns for young families. Budget is only to a max of £450,000.

Thanks in advance :D

Bearsden is best out of the three of these in my opinion.

Your budget will get you more in Bishopbriggs but it’s nowhere near as nice.

Newton Mearns is quite a strange place to be honest, all the real nice areas are towards the Whitecraigs side where your budget would struggle to buy a garden shed and everywhere else is just a collection of boring suburban houses and new builds.

Plus I may be generalising here but Mearns seems to be full of people who genuinely think they’re something special when in reality it’s a quieter East Kilbride without roundabouts.

Have you thought of Giffnock or Milngavie?

@Meeplemakeglasgow thank you so much 😊 for your inputs.. I’ve asked so many people about Mearns but have had no luck.. this is certainly useful 😀Bearsden is my husband’s favourite. Isn’t Milngavie further away from the city centre than Bearsden.. we have been to Giffnock once and it looked really nice but honestly whenever I searched for places in Giffnock, nothing came up atleast not for my budget. I could be wrong though.. I didn’t setup a search alert for Giffnock ..should do that now..

The difference between what you’ll get in Bearsden and Bishopbriggs is pretty big. That being said Bishopbriggs has nice housing stock, good schools and is hands down the easiest commute in to Glasgow.

@PlantyPotts thank you.😀there are a lot of new developments that come up now and then in Bishopbriggs ..I've missed quite a few and all that is left now are the townhomes. I prefer the detached houses to the townhouses and I feel now left behind... I've subscribed to email alerts for new developments now and hopefully 2022 will be the year we move into a house with a garden..It's been a long wait...

Bishopbriggs is nice but Bearsden and Milngavie are nicer with better schools.

Detached house wise there's more in Milngavie and it's not too far away from town although Bearsden or Bishopbriggs is closer to city centre.
