Edinburgh Council had unfairly withdrawn child's S1 catchment school place

I had informed Edinburgh Council that l would no longer be staying at my current address (catchment area) and moving to another town. They had erroneously assumed that my child would also be moving with me, however child was staying at a relative's house which is in the catchment area for S1. I had planned to stay in Dunfermline with child staying in Edinburgh attending catchment school, but the job in Dunfermline turned out not as expected, so only weeks later I was back to Edinburgh. Luckily I signed a new tenancy agreement in catchment area starting 2nd February 21. how can I ensure darling is still getting the catchment school? i have replied to the officer last week but still no response. Darling has been so unhappy even crying over it as her best friends are going to the catchment high school. Also with her not being originally from Edinburgh, the close friends she has made at primary school are especially valuable to her.

Did you not give them your relatives address? Unless told otherwise it's not unreasonable to presume a child will move with parents?

Unless there is unusual circumstances if you live in the catchment you should get a place.

Since the child was wrongly withdrawn from the catchment school, she should get it back right? l had only informed Edinburgh Council that l would be moving out, somehow the school catchment department came to conclusion me and child would be moving out together. l wasn't even asked, just informed last week that child has been withdrawn because I would no longer be resident in catchment area. Weeks later, yesterday, l moved back to catchment area and informed the Council tax department to send me a new demand notice so l can set up a new direct debit. anyone know the phone number for school catchments department? l had replied to their email just minutes after receiving last week, but still no response.

Had no idea there be a connection, between school catchment school for S1 and me moving out the area for weeks. on Feb2nd had moved back to the catchement area and informed Edinburgh Council for a demand notice. no response / post. Has been almost two months now, since child had school withdrawn. Have emailed school.placements, but no response. tweeted them several times, and they tell me that they have passed on my message to them. Should l escalate this and contact Scotland's Public Services Ombudsman, www.spso.org.uk/spso

Thanks for help fellow mumsnet users
