Are there smells near the Richmond Lock area? What is it like to live on that side of the river.

Hi all
I am looking to move to possibly the other side of the River, ie East Twickenham, near the Richmond Lock and Weir. Someone mentioned that there might be bad smells from a sewage facilities nearby? Would anyone know much about that area/ Corsellis Square specifically. And is it safe to live round there please? Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks.

Thank you! @soniamumsnet
I am new to mumsnet and am looking at living in that area ( is that called East Twickenham or Richmond Lock) near the River, not sure how safe and what the area is like. Any comments would be valued. Thanks.

They are probably talking about Mogden sewage treatment plant.

I think you may get occasional smells from there but I don’t think it is common.

During heavy rainfall, raw sewage can be pumped directly into the Thames but the river is so full and fast flowing that it shouldn’t cause a smell.

Forgot to say - sometimes there is an odd smell from the river at low tide but I am not sure what causes it. Definitely not every low tide.

I live on the other side of the river and absolutely love the area.

I work in East Twickenham and it is a very nice area and I've never noticed any smells from Mogden.
