I've just been to the URBAN BEACH. in Bristol. What a cool idea!

It's opposite The Hole in the Wall on Redcliffe Wharf. It was packed with kids all playing in the sand.

You can hire deckchairs .. there's food, a bar (not unreasonably priced), even a man selling paper-back books.

I left when ds threw sand in my face for the tenth time, but I could have happily idled away the afternoon there.

Take a look next time you're in town.

Glad to hear it's good.

I've been a bit sus about this. AM worried about what state the sand will be in after local drunks have passed through.

Sounds like it would be worth a look though.

COuld walk rather than drive to HEngrove.

To put your mind at rest, the place is quite PC. There is only one designated smoking area, right in the corner, and no one's allowed to drop buts, litter, etc., because when they close the beach in the autumn, the sand will be distributed to local schools.

It's not a huge 'beach,' but it's free and as you say, it would save the drive to Hengrove (which is fab, but always blowing a gale whenever I go).

SOunds good then, will take a look.

Ds still puts stuff in his mouth all the time, so always careful.

This sounds great. Wonder if we'll ever see the sun again, though.

typical, I was in Bristol until last week, and I'm back in Belgium again now. I'd have liked to have gone there with the kids.
