Recommendations for North West Surrey, moving from New York with three kids

Hi Mums! We are looking to move to Surrey with three young kids (3, 5 and 7 yrs). It's tricky doing it from overseas so any advice is really welcome. I have scoured similar threads but there are specifics which I would appreciate your advice with:

  • a direct train to Waterloo / Victoria within 50 mins ideally
  • within 45 mins drive of family in Buckinghamshire hence north-west, north. Key factor as need help with the kids!
-great public schools for the three kids -semi-rural, 4/5 bed detached, large garden, around GBP 1 million -happy to be in a cute village five miles from a station to get more space -not having the sound of the M25... -for bonus points, something of a laid-back vibe/ community feel It would save me so much time on google maps / Rightmove if you can send some suggestions names my way! Very much appreciated.

What about Oxted? It has really fantastic schools - and you can even get into the grammar system just over the border at secondary level if that appeals, trains direct to Victoria (and Londond Bridge), is in a cute village 5 min drive from station and semi rural right near some amazing woods which are infamous locally for their amazing bluebells. This house seems to meet your criteria with 4/5 bedrooms and a large garden: www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-73163036.html

What about Ripley or Send near Guildford. Ripley is a beautiful village with a great community feel and a lovely place to bring up kids. Sadly the primary school is closing but there are plenty of other state and private options nearby. Send is a little cheaper with regards to housing but has a thriving school, church and a good community spirit.

Thanks for these suggestions!

RockinRobinTweets thanks for the property search! I am little concerned about the girls living somewhere like Cobham, I have heard, maybe unfairly, that they will feel peer pressure to have designer everything etc because it is so monied. Is that unfair - or is that unescapable across Surrey?

Thingswedoforlove Oxted sounds gorgeous but may be little too south from my folks as close to Kent I believe?

Speckledhen10 Thanks. I hadn't considered anything within the M25 ring as I had discounted as too urban. Does it feel leafy in those areas and can you get away from the motorway noise? Is Guilford the nearest train station?

I am also wondering whether there are any pretty villages north of say Camberley, Farnham, Guildford, Woking, Virginia Water that might hit the mark? These towns seem to be some of the closest to the grandparents in Bucks. Thanks in advance.

Speckledhen10 thanks again. I double-checked and of course they are outside of the M25! I will take a look at whether there is a Church school.

Pyrford has a c of e church school, West Byfleet has a catholic primary school which feeds into an amazing secondary school in Woking. Both have a community feel, we have friends who are very happy there.

Thanks IpanemaChica.

Rowledge is a great village! Community. Shop open till 11 for those 'must have' things - like milk and bread. Local butcher. Coffee shop. Alice Holt - which is fabulous. 8 minutes from Farnham by car.
