My family and I are looking to move over to South Wales, within commuting distance of my husband's work in Bristol. We have looked at various areas in Wales, and I have found some lovely properties, however not so sure about the areas in general. Our property search for houses within our measly budget has taken us on epic treks as far as the Brecon Beacons, and to other parts of Wales such as Pontypool, Bridgend, and now we've found a house in Newport and our offer has been accepted. However, I am still not sure whether or not my husband and I are about to be making a bad move, and I worry that it's the wrong choice for our family particularly my youngest, who will be moving schools in time to start year 5. Many posters suggesting there are nice and bad areas to Newport, but my question would be; exactly which areas should I avoid in Newport? The house we've put an offer on is in NP19, overlooking the |River Usk, and all I ever read is that NP20 is more desirable, but then the house prices there are too much for us. Please can anyone tell me is NP19 rough? Are there good schools there? Would it be a mistake to move to Newport from our current home which is situated in a quiet village in Gloucester ( however it is a private rent property and we can't rent forever as it's eating into our equity), but we could never afford to buy in our current location. So much stress and worry atm, as my daughter is going to be heart broken as it is, when we have to move her away from her friends and current primary school. Last thing I want to do is to move to a bad area. HELP PLEASE!!
