carpet cleaning: rugdoctor or local company?

Hi all,
I would like to clean the carpets of our bedrooms (two double, 1 single), staircase and landing before the arrival of our baby. Has anyone experience using rugdoctor or is the result better when using a company? Is there any company you can recommend? How much do they charge approximately?
Thanks a lot!

We used a Rug doctor after I spilt coffee on a cream carpet - it came up good as new. We did the rest of the house whilst we had it! The solutions are quite expensive though.

I've used a local company and had rubbish results. I haven't hired a rig doctor but I did borrow a fax carpet washer from a friend and the results were great.
I am looking to buy one now.
Sorry no definite answer ,only be wary of local companies and get word of mouth recommendation first.
The one I used was from one of those checkatrade sites and it was dire!

There's a third option - the one I choose.

I brought a carpet cleaner myself. A VAX one they start from about £150.

Having my own has the following advantages

You don't have to order the rug doctor, drive to pick it up, submit two lots of ID, load it in your car, clean all your carpets within 24 hours, take it back OR You don't have to organise people to come in and clean it for you, get a date thats convenient for both of you, take time off work, make sure you've got cash to pay them, make sure you move the furniture for them.

Urgh! now I remember why I just brought my own.
