Thornbury for children and teenagers

Hi,

We're presently renting in Bishopston, which we love, but cannot afford to buy here. We've therefore been looking at areas of North Bristol and South Gloustershire, particularly Thornbury.

Today we finally found a place in Thornbury which we like, but a friend then mentioned that she thought it was a bit rough in the evenings (especially Friday nights) and really not great for older children/teenagers.

We have 2 boys, age 4 and 8, so need to start thinking about when they become teenagers if we're going to buy.

Can anybody who has experience of living in Thornbury confirm or deny this? Any advice much appreciated.
Many thanks

Absolutely NOT rough on a Friday or any other night!
I live in the centre of Thornbury, next to all the pubs and restaurants and there is never any real trouble ( sometimes a few people saying their drunken goodbyes a bit loudly!).
My son is 14 - whilst he doesn't think Thornbury is riveting ( what teenager thinks any market town is ) there is a sports centre, regular buses to the Mall/cinema and coffee shops that are happy for young teens to hang out in ( Costa, Hawkes House etc).
Schools are good- both Primary and Secondary.
There are also loads of community events: Farmers Markets, a yearly Carnival, Food Fairs,Christmas light switch on in the High St, Fireworks displays etc
I'm not sure where your friend has got their information from. I grew up here, lived in London, Bath etc and moved back when I had my son as I knew it was a safe place to grow up.
Best of luck with your house hunting OP.

Thanks so much Defaulttodippy.

What you've described was the impression I had of Thornbury and the reason we were looking there. I'm wondering if she just got her areas muddled up!

I wonder if the friend meant Henbury rather than Thornbury!
